If they make it, that certainly isn’t what it’s going to look like.
Dittopretty cool looking
my concerns
Price - Base and after dealer markup
customizable
I want basic stripped down
EV, I want an EV, I'll keep my F150 for pulling and longer drives
I'll believe it once I see it at a dealership listed for sale.
The Toyota probably isn’t electric. So, apples and oranges. I’ll go with the Slate.I've seen some discussions about Toyota bringing back a small truck called the Stout. It's likely to happen in a 4 door version.
I've also seen discussions that Toyota may go Retro and produce a 2 door version as well. Even found this rendering.
What's your opinion? If Toyota produces a 2 door Stout, which would you choose, Stout or Slate.

My local Toyota dealership used to be infamous for accosting visitors before they reached the front door. Fortunately, that policy has since stopped. Would I buy a new Toyota there? Probably not as my next vehicle most likely will be a Civic Hatchback Sport Touring Hybrid…I don’t have access to a home charger for a Slate.20 years ago I was at a Boston area Toyota dealership. The immigrant salesperson refused to give me back my car keys (appraisal) when I decided I wasn't interested in buying. After 15 minutes of that, I stood up in the middle of all the sales floor and started roaring at the top of my lungs, "GIVE ME BACK MY CAR KEYS, ASSHOLES". Needless to say every head on every customer in the dealerships swiveled my way.
It took like 15 seconds for the dealership manager to run over with my keys and escort me out the door as fast as humanly possible without blows. Never stepped foot in a Toyota dealership again. Now that's irrational on my part, but that's how humans can respond. OEMs have no clue how bad dealerships can lose the brand a customer literally forever.
BTW, you see this syndrome over on the Maverick forum. Early on, a lot of bad hybrid experiences (three month repairs, dealer overcharges, bait and switch, bad cvt, bad batteries, etc) led to a lot of bad blood. People who had those bad experiences swore off Ford forever. You also see it on the Santa Cruz forum, only there it was cvt transmissions.
One bad experience with a brand, that person is GONE.
Since posting this, my vehicle needs have changed quite a bit. I don’t need a cargo van. I don’t need a business wrap. I can’t charge at home. But I still need good quality, good fuel economy, and fun to drive performance. Sorry Slate. I still think you are an awesome concept and potentially a great EV. Just no longer a great fit for me.Slate. 1) I don’t want or need a full time pickup truck. The Slate Cargo with a custom wrap for my business is my preferred mode, 2) I like the Slate’s simplicity and price, 3) an EV is lower cost to run and maintain as a commuter, 4) I don’t care about towing, 5) I only have one other human to transport, and 6) I want that frunk with the cup holders.
Go look at the Nissan Frontier King Cab. 6-foot bed on a 210-inch body. 3.8L V6 with no turbo! 310 HP and 21 MPG. Hard not to consider one if you can't charge an EV at home. My 2 cents.Since posting this, my vehicle needs have changed quite a bit. I don’t need a cargo van. I don’t need a business wrap. I can’t charge at home. 21 MPG is nothing to brag about imo.Go look at the Nissan Frontier King Cab. 6-foot bed on a 210-inch body. 3.8L V6 with no turbo! 310 HP and 21 MPG. Hard not to consider one if you can't charge an EV at home. My 2 cents.
Neither is sitting at a public charger to regain 90 miles in 30 minutes at basically the same cost per mile as gasoline. It's embarrassing and degrading.21 MPG is nothing to brag about imo.
