Two words. And a link. 😃

I interpreted what you wrote to mean Slate should be designing-in Sentinel Mode. That belies the "as simple as possible but not simpler" ethos that brings us roll-up windows and paintless body panels.

I could have written "excessive ongoing expansion or addition of new features in the Slate Truck yadda yadda yadda". Instead I wrote two words with a link.

Sorry, I was attempting my best Dave Chappelle question/agreement from the 1980-2000's era of common street vernacular. (https://tenor.com/search/dave-chappelle-word-gifs)

Yes, I wasn't implying Slate add that feature. I was implying that if one needed the extra footage when parked, that's probably the most practical approach.

That topic is discussed in the Rich Rebuilds video
From the transcript...

and and then a lot of people are concerned about um you know the theft of body

panels and others. So we've made sure that uh there are fasteners that are a little bit more difficult to get to uh

37:13
that only the customer will be able to get to uh that will allow for that. So so I can't go on like a stealing spree

37:18
where I just find every slate [and un-bolt] all the panels. This massive crime ring, right? I was thinking about that.

Gotcha. 👍

I bought a dash cam in 2003 that has Parking Surveillance mode. I don't know how common that feature is, but it's available.

I presume that those all just pulled some juice off of 12V battery and are only activated by movement, which would be a minimal draw.

Precisely that, yes.

Requires the "Hardwiring Cable to hardwire your dash cam to fuse box for parking surveillance mode"

So, as a thought experiment, will our Slate trucks have a similar hard-wired approach, or something easier (plug-play)?

I haven't done the equivalent yet on my Lightning, but will figure that out shortly...though, who wants a panel off of an F150? (They want the tail-lights.)

If someone does have a panel stolen, I'm sure there will be DIY videos on sculpting a new one out of cardboard and duct tape.

Reminds me of when Elon said the Cyber truck is where you want to be in an apocalyptic period noting the bullet proof windows. Then later a video of the teenage kid taking about 30 sec to steal a back pack out of a Cyber Truck. Stealer's gonna Steal. 🤣

I would be surprised if there isn't a power wire at minimum. Cars are mandated to have a camera in the back. It's only a matter of time before a forward-facing camera is also required.

For the good of the children, of course. ;)

I was kind of thinking something that would mount high on the rear glass and provide a better view? Same for dash cam view.

I'm now thinking of a good enough front/rear camera that could be run for "sentinel mode" for the Slate when off-duty. If there is already a planned solution, let me know.
Not completely drawn out yet, but my thought has been add at least 2 or 3 truck mounted, motion activated cameras (s340) that feed into my Eufy Security system. It already runs on my iphone/ipad. I’d be able to monitor my dogs and watch for ne'er do wells.

OK...I'm following. That works at the house, but without native wifi in-truck, wouldn't that application only apply within 100m of your wifi (or will you not worry about your sojourns around the volcano base?).
