Flip-Up Rear Window?

Does anyone know if the rear window glass in the standard Slate truck flips up? It looks like the glass is hinged but I haven't seen it pictured in an open position. Thanks.

Probably not hinges but covers for the bolts that hold the back part of the roof. It is reused for the SauV version.

Like you, I'm waiting to hear Slate announce something about this rear cab panel too.

It occurs to me that one way to make the Slate a successful cult runabout is... Removable doors, rear glass and roof panels. Add AWD, which Slate has strongly hinted at, and you have a nice beach machine.

I'm thinking of the vast multitude of small Jeeps that have never left the pavement. They're just personal runabouts, making a style statement that the owner rejects conventionality (in favor of another type of conformity). Ditto for Defenders and Gelandewagens - albeit at a much higher price point.

I'm really interested in how the marketers at Slate adapt to the loss of incentives. They seem to have two major marketing themes right now. (1) "Just the basics". (2) "Customization Heaven".

I think they should add a third campaign down the road (3) "Reject convention".

I don't think the "incredibly cheap" campaign works any more, given the loss of incentives and what Ford has announced. I know the Slate marketers are to me like a rocket scientist is to a three year old, so I'm fascinated to see how they go to market.

From looking at the what we've seen so far the hinges are there but the partition (front-of-the-bed piece people are calling a midgate) doesn't allow the window to be opened because it overlaps the bottom of the window.

The same window and its surrounding fascia/halo move to the back of the SUV Kit, where the window opens and closes using its hinges.

There's no handle or latch mechanism on the glass. Maybe the overlapping tailgate is what holds it closed when it's back there?

Ability to open or remove the rear window (of the pickup) would be a good feature!

i can’t make out a lift handle for it.

here is a closeup of the pickup back window, I think it looks more like a cover than the hinge like the SUV has on the window.
I sent an Email to Slate asking if they are hinges or not.

Someone had posted that they asked at an event, and the mechanism was something still being worked on, the prototypes didn't have what the sale units will have. So it's pretty much a guess trying to figure out how it will work.

Great question! The final design and functionality of the rear window on the pickup version hasn’t been officially released yet.

I'm pretty sure the Slate will come with a sawed-off broomstick handle in keeping with the 1970's manual windows theme. I needed a stick to keep the hatch up on my 1973 Pinto, so no biggie for me.

Pro tip: Use rubber tips from a cane on both ends of the broomstick for better grip.

Nope, just a jagged end where it was busted off. He'd shove that end into some random hole in the hood and the end with the grip would be the side that sat down in the engine bay, LOL.

Slate posted a video a while back of the truck getting loaded up with picnic gear. It had the squareback cover. Tailgate down, glass... also down. It looked really awkward. I really hope that's going to get a rethink.
