Dang it. That's a nice looking truck. I'm gonna have to do some cross shopping, I think.

A few issues:
Bed size. Ford looks pretty small - guessing 4.5 foot. Wish it was 5.5 at least.

Haha--okay, that might be my only issue.

I like that Ford is using LFP for their batteries. If that gets 300 miles for $30k - hoo boy, that's gonna be tough for Slate to compete with unless they come in significantly cheaper.

In all the interview they have been trying to lower expectations on Range. The 30K base trim is unlikely to be 300+ miles of range. Will be interesting though what final range will be on it and what price Slate’s extended battery will be.

Even the best Ford is still a Ford. They will most likely need a major repair shortly before the final payment. I wouldn’t buy one at half the price.

I was reading about how Ford will construct the new truck and it seems it will be made of two big separate aluminum castings.

If I get a major dent in my Chevy truck it can be straightened out with hydraulics at any competent body shop, but with aluminum castings they can only be fixed by replacing them, they can't be straightened (please correct me if I'm wrong someone as I've been led to believe that aluminum castings will crack rather than bend) making the truck even more disposable than other Fords.
Insurance rates would be high for any vehicle that can be totaled if it gets the slightest damage to the castings.
It may keep manufacturing costs down but later on down the road??

Insurance factor. Many years go, our son needed help buying a car. We offered to help with the financing provided we were involved in the purchase. Got excited about a used Hyunda until checking with the insurance company. They considered most any accident would result in vehicle being totaled. We got a was Accord. (which he hit a deer and totaled anyway)

They have developed repair methods to these gigacastings that don’t involve replacing the whole thing. In some ways they are preferable then non-gigacasting structures. See article below.

I'm getting hints that Ford may be doing the same thing. Notice how small the rear window is and how much lower the top of the rear window is compared to the rear side window. Could the black cover be hiding a Rivian style rear roofline? 🤔

All those camouflage covers are doing their job. There's some trickery going on here, including the window lines on the doors, maybe even the door handles.
