Threads always go off track. Because we're human beings talking, not computers computing. And because our brains are neural networks that function associatively, meaning one topic makes us think of a related topic.

Can you imagine a party where somebody starts a conversation, and the rigid rule is that nobody can stray off that topic?

They need to do something differently. I'd be down for a Bronco, but they can't seem to figure out the systems (too many of them lead to Jeep-like unreliability?), so simplification with some Tesla influence would probably be a major step forward.
It feels like to me that Ford is still recovering from their Microsoft Sync infotainment dumpster fire from over a decade ago. It seems they're on the right track when it comes to hardware/software synergy now.

I wish my Lightning was proof of this.

Mine's been quite reliable.

Autoline Daily for 27 Jan 2025 is now reporting insider information from AutoForecast Solutions that the Maverick EV will start rolling off the lines in KY in July 2027. A year later the Escape EV starts coming down the line. The plant can do 200,000 EVs a year.

Let's hope the Lightning Team has NOTHING to do with these EV's...

Why the hate for the Lightning? Though it's been cancelled, I think it was a solid idea at the time, and if you liked driving an F150, you'd probably really like driving a Lightning.

I also wonder if Ford will actually make the Maverick an EV. My guess is they will call it something else since it'll be a purpose built EV platform, and the Maverick is based on the ICE Escape. The ICE/hybrid Maverick will exist alongside it so long as tariffs don't make it prohibitively expensive.

I owned mine for 5 months and after 5 attempts and 12 days in the shop, multiple dealers gave up and simply said they didn’t know how to fix…the Frunk. Ford can’t electronically engineer itself out of its own Frunk, by my 1st person experience…so, the crappy Sync system and non-functional Frunk is someone else’s problem. That a sufficient reason (plus the $1/mile effective depreciation)?

What is a “non-functional frunk”? It wouldn’t open?

Ah, so an issue with the dealers being able to fix it and not the team that designed it. A friend of mine had a bad experience where the onboard inverter on his Lightning failed and it took weeks for the dealership to figure out how to fix it. I was without my (new) Miata for 5 weeks while the dealership fumbled through a transmission replacement. It happens - too frequently - but it doesn't necessarily mean the underlying vehicle itself is bad. I do think the simpler nature of the Slate will appeal to people who are tired of everything being over complicated and prohibitive to fix yourself.

Depreciation for vehicles bought in 2022 or 2023 hit everyone pretty hard. It's not something exclusive to the Lightning. You should have seen the size of the bath I took on my Model S...

Correct. It would not open electronically, from cab, manually and would only release via key fob. They replaced every single component and did a complete software reinstall…then simply gave up. Unacceptable for a vehicle with fewer than 30K miles. Especially when it worked when I bought it and was the likely victim of their erstwhile OTA software updates.

I hear you…but there are several “known issues” that are 100% engineering integration issues. Sync 4.0 should be flawless…better not take a conference call that depends on it though. I thought Reddit was exaggerating. Frunk was complete boondoggle and emblematic of overall inability to warranty basic components. I was upset bc it was the fastest smoothest largest brick I’d ever experienced at any price level and was an absolute towing beast for short distances. If the manufacturer has insufficient knowledge/experience/ability to train and deploy certified professionals to keep their vehicles on the road for an $87K truck, then it’s the manufacturer. I hope everyone else has flawless performance and service experience, but I couldn’t squeeze it out of the Blue Oval.

I haven't been following Ford too closely, but I hadn't heard they were planning on an EV version of the Maverick. I thought the plan was a completely new EV that could have several different body styles on the same chassis, one being a truck similar to the Hyundai Santa Cruz. They even got a trademark for the old Ranchero name, possibly for the new "truck".

Yeah, very little info on what they are actually making has really been released. Their announcement was more about the platform, supposed to start with something "trucklike" no names released, only image was a shot of a guy polishing a front "grill" area. The idea that it would be "Ranchero" is fully explained with all evidence in your sentence. That Maverick EV, Escape EV could just be rumors, Ford has been very secure about any info at all getting out.
