Makes me curious if someone will make a kit for keeping the hinges on the base-cab model. Imagine the flow-through ventilation you could get with a flip up rear window...I keep watching this video clip for answers. It appears you are correct, in the standard 2 seat pickup, the rear glass is fixed in place. What looks like hinges are actually covers for fasteners to secure the glass to the roof halo section, not functional hinges. When you install the SUV kit, you swap out the bolts for actual hinges. The lip on the bottom of the glass allows it to be locked in place with the tailgate. So, no latch is needed. Just a lot of fingerprints on your rear glass every time you flip it open or closed.
