I always had a fantasy about a 40+' liveaboard sloop that I could single-hand.@CorvusCorvax I used to write for the sailing magazines. My favorite pieces were long articles in Sailing about how to rebuild specific old sailboats: the J/24, Rhodes 19, and MC-scow. The Rhodes 19 club republished the whole piece (with permission, of course) in their club materials; they were convinced, until I told them otherwise, that I actually owned, fixed and raced an R-19, and I was very happy that they found the instructions that useful.
But I can't imagine the endless maintenance and repair even a newer boat would need. I've seen some talk, but I've never seen it broken down completely. I know that liveaboard proponents often soft-sell the amount and cost of having a boat constantly on the water.
Now, if I have a Slate, so that my on-shore maintenance is small, maybe I can afford that liveaboard dream...
