If the Slate doesn't make it out, my next choice is waiting for the Ford unknown named, to be designed, under $30K EV midsized truck.

Wife wants the Scout EREV though...

My backup car is in the shop now. The mechanic told me that more folks are fixing up their old cars these days instead of buying another. One Audi in his shop got a new engine after sitting disabled for two years.

My main ride has 174K miles, backup has 202K, driveway queen has 90K with no airbags, they will have to hold me over until Slate comes out. 😂

What I really want is a small, affordable coupe with Slate's repairable, customizeable design philosophy. Think old Mazda Miata, Saab 9-3, maybe a Golf hatchback. I loved my '93 Ford Ranger back in the day, and I'm excited for my Slate, but I don't really *need* a truck, it's just a want.

It's 2026, any new vehicle I'd get has to be an EV. But I don't want cheap computerized "features" that are unrepairable and unreliable, and chintzy glossy plastic furnishings that are going to get beat up and be unable to survive real use by real people!

The Bolt is the closest thing to the platform I want that's on the road now, but it's a Chevy. Driving in Michigan, it's always salty and wet in winter, and Chevys just disintegrate into a pile of rust flakes after a few years...

I like the scout erev conceptually. But I simply wont pay that much for any car. For me erev is ideal. You can use gas, but you have only a single drivetrain. The gas generator gets to run at an optimal RPM and can be smaller than what is necessary to power the car.

I personally try to pay 30K or less. My wifes cars are in the 70k range so I guess we are right at the average of 50K

Things have changed a lot financially for me since the announcement, good and bad. I don't think I'll be able to part with the car I was planning on selling for the Slate when I want to (it's complicated) BUT I might be getting the opportunity for a Ford X-plan code that I can keep or pass onto someone else. A two-door Eruption Green base model Bronco is NOT as cheap as a Slate though, but that's still my runner up if no Slate happens.

My perpetually unkillable Element project that was due for an engine two years ago won't die, but if it does that might be the Slate slot.
