It would be nice if there was an old man step in the tailgate kinda like the ford truck. I can’t tell you how many times I was glad I had it.

Looks like Ford beds can be 37 inches or more from the ground to the bed without any lift. Rough measurement of a photo is giving around 30 inches for the Slate. Those tailgate steps on Ford trucks apparently are at ~20-22 inches?
An aftermarket step certainly could be an option, and would make it even easier than the Ford one does.

Looking at the diameter of the tire and where the bed height should be, the bed should only be about 24 inches off the ground. I was trying to get AI to render this, but it has probably had too many happy hour drinks, so here's a picture

With the 245/65R17 tire being 29.5", it looks like the bed is just a bit lower than that, maybe 26-27" or so? That's higher than the F150's step of maybe 20", but well below it's bed height of around 3 feet.

My F150 tailgate sits at 35" and the step is at 22", and I'll admit it's handy with that bed height. It also makes the tailgate much heavier and more expensive.

The Slate tailgate looks to sit about even with the top of the bumper sides. Those are noticeably below the tops of the ~29" (accounting for deformation) tires in all the (non-lifted) photos I've seen, although the one with the plywood is showing it somewhat compressed lower. I'd guess probably ~27 inches though. If that's too tall for a small percentage of (mobility limited) customers, Amazon has them covered... Click here.

Not that ir really matters much, but the truck in that rendering appears to be lifted.

I have a step-stool tool box that is probably 12-13" tall. This is handy for loading a motorcycle in the bed because you can situate it about halfway up the ramp and then step from there to the tailgate. The issue for me with the built in tailgate step ladders is that by the time I am on the ground next to the tailgate the front motorcycle wheel is on the tailgate and the handlebars would be too high for me to reach from the ground. When getting in the bed when not loading a motorcycle then I step on the step bumper and then step over the tailgate. The last truck I had was a Colorado and it had cutouts in the bumper on the ends that served as steps that you could access the bed from regardless of whether the tailgate was up or down.

Have you guys considered the optional bed step that folds out of way when not needed?

teverything is an option. If enough people want it, it will be an accessory.
