Because posts keep coming up where people say they would go for something different than slate is offering, I thought I'd try to come up with a poll and see how much of it's just a vocal minority making themselves heard. Multi select poll, you can choose multiple answers.

Basically what would have brought you here. Some say they would also buy if it was ICE, some are here for it being EV, some don't care if it's truck or not and want a low cost EV, etc.

Making it an EV fits into Slate's philosophy of long term affordability and reliability. But it also was important for the scalability pitch to Investors. In Europe the current plan is to be BEV only by 2035. East Asia has similar plans but are more open to hybrids. North America has cancelled their EV Mandates but all the Legacy Manufacturers feel like BEVs are the future and any investment in ICE/Hybrids is more for short term profits. Developing an ICE or Hybrid engine might help in the short term for sales in the US. But in the long term they would still need to develop an EV which is much different to EV development. Or at the very least that's how investors are going to see it and the fact that there hasn't been a new major ICE Manufacturer in the US in a long time doesn't help. All of the starts up that are still alive are BEV only for a reason. Now add on top of all that is the fact that making a highly reliable and efficient ICE or Hybrid engine from scratch is not only difficult but also expensive to source the parts especially at an affordable rate without economies of scale and made in America. As Slate always say the least interesting thing about the Slate Truck is that it's an EV but that doesn't mean it's an EV without good reason.

I know people voting in the poll are going to be self selected for those with enough interest in an EV small truck specifically to have even joined in here, but thought it would be good to see some numbers because multiple posts seem to get started with something like "I'd prefer a gas engine"

I feel like slate would do even better if theyd offered a small car instead of a small truck.

I really want a small EV. The truck aspect is fun, but not a requirement, given I already have a pickup. For this poll, I selected both "EV small truck" and "EV small car"

A Golf/GTI type EV would be fantastic too. Gimme a little torquey hot hatch, or a little torquey pickup, or anything along those lines. Preferably on the cheap.

EV truck all the way. I like being able to buy a 4x4 rack of firewood every year from the cheap firewood guy down the way and bring it home for the winter, which isn't very long in north Texas but it does get cold as hell. I also like getting mulch and bringing it home, being able to throw tons of junk in it to take to the dump, and loading it up with camping equipment. I'll probably never drive it off road, but I like the ability to jump a curb once in a blue moon.

I just wanted a small pickup truck, regardless of EV or ICE. I'm also a big believer of two door trucks and this thing is perfect for that. I am waiting to see what the Honda Prelude ends up being priced, I really want something fun and small and it'll be either the Slate or the Prelude.
