Are we living in the twilight zone? Time and time and time again Slate representatives have said installation is an additional charge for wraps. And they state under $500. So your non-premium wrap will be $900 to $1000 in total. Look at the closed captioning of this screen shot. This is installation, not parts price.

Show me the quote from Slate… I have never seen it.
I timestamped the video below where they discuss it. Installation of the wrap is just under $500. At 39.54 the manager also talks about the process and how it's the delivery partner that actually puts the wrap on, not Slate.

Maybe Slate
I figure I have at least 9 months to decide.

If I back out and lose my deposit, not the dumbest thing I've wasted $300 on.
You bought an option to get ahead of the non-reservation holders. And if you haven't lost $300 on options before, have you even really been trying?

maybe you do live in the twilight zone. from day 1 Slate has stated that all trucks roll out as a single sku. they are not wrapping them at the factory, right? so it will come installed for $500, meaning that I don't have to do it myself or find someone to do it...they will do it for $500. So you buy the wrap and pay $500 for it to be installed prior to delivery. Not sure where you were confused.

I think you are on to something... My guess is that once we lock in our order, we'll get another form to finalize all the options for the vehicle. That's where we'll choose what we want to install ourselves versus what we'll pay someone else to install.

Man. This is just getting wierd.

from Floridacarwrap.com , a very typical wrap shop near Fort Lauderdale:

Quick Cost Overview:

  • Small Car (Full Wrap): $2,500 – $3,800
  • Sedan (Full Wrap): $3,000 – $4,600
  • SUV (Full Wrap): $3,200 – $6,500+
  • Truck/Van (Full Wrap): $4,000 – $7,000
  • Partial Wraps: $500 – $3,800
  • Premium/Custom Wraps: $6,000 – $15,000+

This is representative of pricing anywhere in the US.
They all use similar products from companies such as 3M.

Why do people persist in thinking that they are owed something for nothing, that Slate must subsidize their desires?

Choosing a basic pre-cut wrap from Slate for $500 is a bargain. Choosing to have Slates partner apply the wrap for an ADDITIONAL $500 (approx presumed), is really cheap, and only feasible, since they are provided with pre-cut peices and a low labor design tailor made for speed; AND, they get to line these things up, machine gun style, for maxiumum labor efficiency - similar to Slates unique factory efficiency.

In other words, Slate has created the environment where $1000 gets a new vehicle wrapped vs the 3-$4000 it costs for you to take your random small car to a wrap shop near you.

Bonus: if you have the skills or want to learn yourself, you can save the $500 INSTALLATION FEE and get specific, pre-cut pieces that will really make it MUCH EASIER to DIY.

Why oh why is this unclear?

Or, you can do as I intend, and buy a simple, unwrapped grey Slate. I find it low-key attractive.

it is just that $30k for a stripped down truck is, for me, a waste of money.
I've seen this sentiment multiple times, and I still haven't figured it out. For anyone who has looked at Slate for more than a few minutes, just what makes it "stripped down" that you would miss?
No radio, sure, no paint, sure, but you've got 100 colors to choose from, for just $1k installed. Other than that, most here are considering the things it doesn't come with as positives.

Calling it stripped down sounds like there are dozens of missing features, no AC, no cruise, I don't even know what else. Then there is the EV part, which on any other vehicle commands a premium in the thousands+

As for the original topic, I have absolutely no regrets about my preorder.

About where this thread has wandered to, I’m finding It hard to believe that getting my Slate fully wrapped will cost less than $1,000. If that ends up being true, I will be ecstatic. Unless that requires me to wait another month for delivery. In that case, I’ll install it myself and live with the imperfections that I will undoubtedly cause.

Stop being a voice of reason.
It's outrageous.

If you have a Tundra for towing and hauling why did you sign up to buy small pickup truck just to drive gas-less to work? I think you are the only one on the Forum who has chosen that ownership use case. I can understand why you have second thoughts.
