Wondering how many reservations will be affected based on the published base price to be released on June 24?

I’ve been pretty vocal about this in other threads, but I’ll say it again here. They need to surprise everyone by having the base slate be on the low end of “mid 20s” so that with any of the add-ons like the extended battery, SUV kits, cargo kit, etc it’s still a good deal. If they come out solidly 25,000 or higher for the blank slate with the smaller battery, then we’d be looking at high 20s for a larger battery or potentially 30k+ for the least convenient SUV on the market. It stops being competitive the moment the price creeps up.

It needs to still be cheap compared to other cheaper cars even with a larger battery or the SUV kits in order to be competitive. It’s a truck with a pretty low towing capacity and a small bed. It makes up for that by being itself small, but it’s definitely something that will be on the mind of people who need a truck to be a truck. But it doesn’t have any amenities other than air conditioning, whereas there are cars available for ~28-30k with air conditioning, speakers, stereos, etc. it needs to be a good choice when compared with those, not everyone who gets a Slate will be a person who might otherwise consider getting a truck. They may just be choosing what’s affordable, and if amenities are stripped out, it needs to be very competitive on price

Your question might be a bit vague. All reservations “will be affected” in some way once pricing is announced. There are actually 3 options;
  1. Convert to a preorder
  2. Request a refund
  3. Do nothing
What you’re seeking is the reaction to the 6/24 announcement, and we really need to wait until 7/24 as that is when the first order window will close.

Hummm... the way I read the pre-order announcement is there is not a "do nothing" choice. I'll have to re-read the language, but I thought you had to order within 30 days of being notified your production time slot was determined. There is a choice to not order within the 30-day window, which pushes your delivery out to an unknown date. I guess "do nothing" would advocate forfeiture of the $50 reservation fee?

That's how I read it. "Do nothing" and you might as well get your $50 back because you'll be thrown into the pool of the unexciteds.

I think you can keep the reservation if you desire but it offers you no advantage because anyone with $300 bucks can jump in to the same window with you at any time. Some people like having reservations. I kept my CT reservation until a few days after I reserved the Slate. I also have a Telo reservation that I will keep until I take delivery of my Slate. I also had a Canoo reservation which the returns were much better than the GOEV stock. Negative returns on GOEV versus 0% return on the Canoo reservation.

I don't think anyone buys a car purely on price. We will all surely weigh the price, but also what we get for the price.

There is hopefully an overwhelming tsunami of facts coming from Slate in two weeks. Facts on service. Facts on delivery. Facts on specifications and capabilities. Which, praise the heavens above, will finally squash all the endless conjecture we've all been pulling out of thin air (me too).

And we'll all digest all those facts and make a very simple gut instinct call: do we personally like the cost-content calculation?

And then we'll spend the next six months happily debating who's gut instinct is better than everyone else's gut instinct.

Not sure the value of the survey, just too many unknowns, not just the basic price, but the price of our desired configuration, etc. Ex: Base $25 and I‘m overjoyed. Topper configuration + $5k and now I have a lot of thinking to do ranging from bite the bullet (not likely), decide I can wait 6 months for the topper (very possible), or maybe the dogs don’t get to enjoy the new Slate ( perhaps the worst choice personally). Have to remember that base cost isn’t the only cost, taxes, whatever fees, Destination charge, other trans, registration. Varies of course, but still a factor.

And then we have our maybe Slate contingent who regardless of the numbers will include in their nightly prayers their plea for a meaningful Ford announcement by 7/23.

20k got my attention initially, but now that I'm aware of the slate, I'd gulp and continue on through if it were 40k all told. Why? Because of all the things it doesn't have: loads of proprietary microprocessor modules, cameras and microphones inside and out over which I have no control, call home to exfiltrate data (presumably for sale w/o my permission), body panels welded in place so I need a body shop to replace a panel, the list goes on.

Just give me an electric drive train and none of the other garbage, please.

Would I like it to be a little bigger (in volume)? Yes.

Would I like there to be a drop-in range extender I could rent for the rare cross country trip? heck yes.

Am I looking forward to getting my hands on my slate? double heck yes. (And I'll continue to whine about loss of the triangle window; it's not nostalgia, but a sometimes AC substitute.)

But I'll take real world good over hypothetical perfect any day of the week.

I'd probably stop past $27k. Not because I don't think it worth the purchase, it is just more than I would want to spend. I'd either pivot to a used vehicle, or, if possible wait for some Slates to hit the used market. I don't have to be in a rush.

I voted “Doesn’t Matter” but it’s NOT a vote for a Slate at any price. There are other factors involved in my choice of a Blank Slate + the accessories I want. There are currently no comparable basic compact pickup trucks available new in the USA. That’s why I keep my old ‘03 Tacoma 2-door single cab going and going and going.

I am prepared to go up to $28K for the extended battery. But $30K isn't too far away eh? It's just $2K extra, which over three years is $55.6/mo and $1.54/day. $2 is how much I pay for snacks from the vending machines at work.

I will whine and groan for a few days about $30K but yes I am still in. $40K would be too much for me. That is fancy and outta ma league. I am a $20K car kinda owner/driver.

What are we all gonna do on 6/24? 🤦
