My very first concert was REO Speedwagon at the Ohio State Fair. Mom made my brother take me with he and his friends. It was slightly delayed due to weather so we were literally "Riding the Storm Out."

Good times!

Lol, this scam artist is at it. Has somewhere around 4000 pre-orders now. Blow up his posts calling out his BS.

I suspect the order numbers assigned are random or artificially inflated. It seems like the first ones ever posted have order numbers > 1000.

I don’t think there are that many utter idiots, but maybe there are.

I wonder if their account violates twitter's rules against impersonation? It does seem like a scam. Maybe if enough people reported them for that, something... I don't count on twitter getting things right.

Hello Slate Forum Folks,

This is the actual REO Team here. We’d like to start off by saying that we respect Slate and what the company has set out to achieve. It looks like a great little truck that you all will love driving day in and day out.

That being said, we would like to kindly address rumors that are disparaging REO Industries in this particular forum.

1. REO is not a scam. We are a real startup by real car guys.

2. REO Industries has live trademark applications in all applicable classes necessary for running a direct to consumer car company, just like Slate.

3. REO Industries specifically holds a live, pending trademark application for REO in Class 12 (vehicles), with no live conflicting marks on file. All prior REO Class 12 marks have been dead for decades.

4. We have the blessing of the RE Olds Transportation Museum and are actively involved in being stewards of Ransom Olds’ legacy. The folks over there are fantastic people and we’re very proud and blessed to work with them.

5. Yes, our founder used to have a career in real estate. A successful one at that. He’s not a billionaire doing this as a side project. He’s doing this as his only project because he has a serious car addiction.

6. Yes our mailing address is a print and ship center PO box local to our region. We prefer the service of a private company due to availability rather than the USPS at this time.

Our goal here is not to turn you away from Slate, we love the Slate truck and can’t wait to see it hit market. We just want to kindly correct a bunch of rumors present in this forum.

Affordable trucks are great for all Americans. We’re all in this together.

Sincerely,

The REO Team

Wishing you success in your endeavors. The more the merrier!

I think you can understand if some folks are leery of internet misinformation. It's unfortunate that legitimate businesses fall victim to this - everybody does their own research and will draw their own conclusions. Only your success and business practices can speak to whether this is all scam or legit.

Again, best wishes.

Wish you luck.
Your soliciting $ for a promise of a promise you have no obligation to fulfill screams scam. If indeed legit, I’d remove it until there was something to promise, maybe like Slate did.

Call me crazy but I feel like if you make a forum account and post to clarify you're not a scam that you're likely a scam.

If this is all true I wish you guys nothing but the best. One of the core founding principles of Slate was to bring manufacturing back to the United States. I would love to see another startup build out in Texas. But you can understand how one can be skeptical at this point. But as Tom said only your success and business practices can speak to whether this is all a scam or legit. Best wishes.

Definitely a scam. The tell is the word ‘kindly’.

From Gemini:

The word "kindly" is a major red flag in unsolicited messages. Scammers frequently use it in phrases like "kindly update your password" or "would you kindly". Because it has largely fallen out of modern American and British business English, its presence often exposes that the sender is an overseas scammer.
