I could be completely wrong about this, but I believe SA has said that if the user wants to have a infotainment-like screen in the vehicle that displays the vehicle's data, it needs to run the Slate app, which means a tablet computer is required, Android or iOS.Can’t we just mirror the phone to a usb c monitor, would also allow you to maybe have a pi or ps5. What do you fine folks think? Amazon just for an example.
I know exactly what kind of tables those are. Way back in the day my step-father entered some contest at our local Chevrolet dealer and one of the door prizes was a 'tablet.' Ended up winning that tablet and it was some barely functional no-name loaded with an old version of generic android. And it was pre-loaded with chinese-language apps and music videos.Yah some tablets are as low as 10 bucks or less if you know where to look if you realllllly need one
And you can still mirror the tablet to your phone for the phone function.I could be completely wrong about this, but I believe SA has said that if the user wants to have a infotainment-like screen in the vehicle that displays the vehicle's data, it needs to run the Slate app, which means a tablet computer is required, Android or iOS.
A monitor is not a computer, it's just a screen that attaches to a computer.
However, if what you are thinking of is running said Slate app on your phone, but having it mirror to the larger monitor, I suppose that might be possible.
But why? Why not just get a tablet? They run all the apps you could ever want and it eliminates the mirroring BS.
You are 💯 correct. The USB-C is for connecting your device to the car to control / communicate with it. A USB-C screen would be pretty much useless here.I could be completely wrong about this, but I believe SA has said that if the user wants to have a infotainment-like screen in the vehicle that displays the vehicle's data, it needs to run the Slate app, which means a tablet computer is required, Android or iOS.

I believe the Slate will have a 12v battery in the frunk so there's the constant 12v power feed. As for the antenna there's all kinds of aftermarket options on those. All I would like is a screen to be able to use Apple CarPlay wirelessly and not have to take my phone out all the time.
I recently asked Slate if I could simply install an aftermarket radio with a touchscreen. Here was their response…

Agreed. I’ve also thought about the standalone CarPlay screens but just unsure how they’d work out at this point. If I added slate’s in-dash speakers, they must work off of whatever is plugged into the phone/tablet mount. So id probably need a usb c to audio jack if it even works that way. Unless Slate will also have an audio jack for other devices. Even if it does work, if the screen is connected to my phone, will it also be able to be controlled by the Bluetooth steering wheel buttons? No way for me to know what will work right now. Seemed like an aftermarket radio would be simplest. I guess we’ll see.I believe the Slate will have a 12v battery in the frunk so there's the constant 12v power feed. I've seen this response before and I find it curious that for their whole 'make it yours' motto they'd respond like this, kind of poo-poo'ing what I'm sure will be a desired option of mounting a regular aftermarket stereo to avoid the phone/tablet distractions.
As for the USB monitor thing the OP asked about, I'd think that would work as long as your phone supports it, not sure what they've said for power taps in the cab, if there's 120v in there too then that could power the monitor.
The CEO has stated a while back: “the center storage bin that we have has been designed in the right dimensions to be able to put in a double D radio so if you really do want to bring in a radio it’s again that power of choice back to the owner.”If you can’t install a double din stereo that is just insane
These things happen all the time with products, movies, tv shows and video games every knows what people want but somehow they just can’t deliver it. Being able to install standard radio heads with an antenna should of been day one type stuff to confirmThe CEO has stated a while back: “the center storage bin that we have has been designed in the right dimensions to be able to put in a double D radio so if you really do want to bring in a radio it’s again that power of choice back to the owner.”
I’ve just been looking for confirmation of this but the answers have been vague
