Release Day! What pleasantly surprised you. What mildly disappointed you?

Super STOKED about the LFP 200 mile battery. Basically paid for my cargo kit. Love the 2000 towing which means I might be able to tow a teardrop or slightly bigger camper.

Disappointed they changed the color names. Are they still 3M 2080 series? Is the Atomic Teal still available but just under another name?

Wish I had confirmation the batteries are LFP from Slate instead of just hearing it in a review.

Wish I could configure and price a cargo kit truck.

Wish I could pick an SUV wrap kit, and change the top to white, (but maybe I'm not doing it right).

More than merely "pleasant": LFP battery, 205 mile range, for base price of $25K. Best of all possible worlds.
Pleasant: 2,000 lb. towing capacity as expected, 2" receiver at $99 - less than typical aftermarket price.

Disappointed: Not. One. God. Damned. Thing.

I only took a quick look for now. My delivery date would be 27Q1. Cool!

The boosted range is great. Was hoping to see more numbers, such as delivery fee. (I'd like factory pickup at $99 or whatever) I clicked on a few accessories, most were "Price to be determined"

I didn't feel that the warranty info was specific enough. The 10 year, 100k miles on the battery is Federally mandated, nice that they extended it slightly. But the other being "roadside assistance", compare to a bumper-to-bumper?

The 2000# towing is good. I'll have to spend more time researching over the next 29 days.

I'm really pleasantly surprised by the battery option, it just makes sense now every Slate truly will be identical coming off the line. Also the solar tonneau option is really cool, great for camping or tailgating with a mini fridge and tv or what not.

I also feel like they're trying to steer people away from the suv kits with those prices, literally over 20% of the base price for those doesn't seem to jive with the penny pinching theme they're going for.

Personally I don't think I'll be getting one as I've technically already got one with my Ranger electric, that already has a radio and I added power windows to it, AND my favorite accessory the sliding rear window. I'll cancel my reservation at some point but I'm still rooting for them, really want to see more small ev trucks on the road.

My Ford Mach E has the federal HV battery warranty.

OTOH my Honda Clarity PHEV has a 10yr / 150,000 mile HV battery warranty (California).

My Equinox and bolt were 8 years or 100,000 miles.

If the battery drops below a specified capacity (typically 70%) or fails due to a manufacturing defect within this timeframe, the manufacturer must repair or replace it at no cost”
Slate is doing more than the Federal law requires.
I think California has their own law separate from the federal law.

No worry about the AC. The battery cooling system also supplies the cabin AC system, so if the cooling components fail the battery would overheat, thus the AC system is covered under the 10-year battery warranty.

I could not be more pleased. Slate has hit all the marks for me; under $25,000, 200-mile range, $119 thick rubber bed mat, and 2,000-pounds towing with a 2" trailer hitch (assuming it is Class 3). I'm in. I just wish the MIC was black, but it's close enough.

What are you towing/hauling that would need class 3 instead of 2?

I am pleasantly surprised by the 205 mi range, the reviews already posted, the extended and priced accessories list, the 4-year(?) roadside assistance and the increased towing and hauling capacity. I am disappointed that there is no extra repair pal info (still to come?) and just slightly disappointed by no V to L option however overall, a strong showing today. Simple is as simple does.

No worry about the AC. The battery cooling system also supplies the cabin AC system, so if the cooling components fail the battery would overheat, thus the AC system is covered under the 10-year battery warranty. IF some other component in the cabin AC system fails, which would be the switches, HVAC fan (i.e. blower motor), or blend door actuators, they would be easy fixes with inexpensive parts. But those parts of any automotive AC rarely fail. Considering the Slate is designed with simplicity built in, the air control side of the AC system should be easy to repair.

not necessarily the case in very cold winter areas. all depends on the system design, none of it being public or well understood yet.


But hopefully that is moot now that Slate as updated info with:


4 year/50,000 mile Standard Limited Vehicle Warranty
4 years/ 50K miles (whichever comes first) terms and conditions apply.


Of course, they didn't bother spell out what the "terms and conditions" are.
man, they can be a bit maddening.

definitely not. If anything, the opposite - they probably never will offer it (on this model).
I think a 3rd party modification is a realistic possiblity, but an install that puts both window controls in the same place (ie, both from drivers door or both in center) will be a more challenging physical install.

I suspect any original plan to "pre wire" stuff in the doors, and running side to side, will be eliminated in shipped vehicles to further reduce cost.
