I actually really like the Automatic Climate Control on our Mazda. I very rarely touch it at all. But that is definitely not true of all cars. Oh and the Mazda has physical buttons for the temp and fan speed that can be adjusted independently.

Ok based on the definition of Climate Control in vehicles I change my opinion that it only applies to Automatic HVAC systems. Otherwise it is just two separate systems consisting of Air conditioning and Heater controls.

This is automatic climate control.

This seems more like Slate analog HVAC.

Yes it does reduce range in EV's. But if it is 114 degrees outside like it is here in PHX today, you learn to deal with that and account for it in the expectations.

A climate (temp) control system requires: An Input (temp setting), feedback (temp sensor), actuators (to adjust fans, compressors, heater elements, etc) and some software.

If the car allows you to set the desired cabin temp, then these elements are built into the car.

If the car does not allow you to set the cabin temp, then these elements are built into the driver.

Both are "temp control systems".

One good thing about analog HVAC control is the heat and /or AC can be completely turned off. And you know it's off when the because the lights on the buttons are off.

Ford was using Climate Control to describe cars that didn't even have AC in 96, for more terminology shenanigans.

One thing Slate does better than Honda in my mind is putting the recirculate button on the same knob as MAX AC, which forces it on anyways, unless you already have it on, so it's nice to see it on the knob you are adjusting if it does turn back off.

Making a second post not to muddy up the first one, but in my mind, cranking the knob to full heat should activate the PTC heater automatically. In the same vein that the Element does where cranking the vent knobs to MAX AC turns on the compressor and cabin recirculate automatically without the button presses.

All I ask from this Phoenician is:

1) a max fan speed that is super-high flow and is proportional to the evaporator size so at max its ACTUALLY cold.
2) Keep those driver vents clear of the steering wheel and stalks so I can actually have airflow directly in my face. (The Mach-E is killing me with THE lamest vent positions ever—DIRECTLY behind EACH stalk. 🥵)
