Ever since I reserved a Slate my Toyota is behaving badly. It must know it's days are numbered....
RIght ?

My 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV is starting to show it's bad side (12 V battery replaced & A/C starting to fail again)..

Probably knows I am looking at the Slate and Ford $30K EV to replace her....

From these examples, it seems to make better financial sense to invest in a new, low maintenance vehicle like Slate than to plunk down more cash on a 10–15-year-old vehicle just to keep it running.

My biggest concern is, "ok I'll fix it this time," just to have something else fail a few months down the road. Ugh.

Slate Auto Pickup Truck Day countdown until pricing 1781363742584-n7
Actual window sticker vehicle - although this is not an apples to apples comparison, most people will still compare this cost/content with a base slate cost. Slate has to be under this MSRP.

To me, you've got to look at more than just the sticker price. That 23 mpg city is an issue. If the hybrid was at least a plug in hybrid I might be comparing it, but at this point with solar, charging would basically be free on anything halfway efficient, and I don't need the range and added complexity of a hybrid. If not a Slate I'll have to start searching used EVs and compare to new ones and test drive to make sure they aren't too small.

Is there a place-holder thread already for us to post our reservation date and delivery window?

If you need a stop gap vehicle in case your old one dies before your Slate is delivered you might check out Flex Car. They offer monthly leasing of used cars by the month. It might be cheaper than a costly repair on the vehicle that you are trying to get to last until Slate is delivered.

Still uses Gas.. definitely a big NO for me on a Maverick at any price.

In literally every segment there's an ICE vehicle at a lower price than the lowest price EV. By your logic no one would ever buy an EV. Even if you ignore those people (like me) who like EVs and are willing to pay a premium for a better technology, TCO is far more important than who has the lowest sticker price.

Are most people looking to make this a replacement or secondary? As of right now, this will be replacing my aging Ranger (Beach/Surf truck).

If the cost of using it as a daily is more advantageous than my Prius C, it may just become my daily driver.

I already sold my 2006 GMC Canyon regular cab short bed base model, replacing that with this.

Wife and I have had a 1-car household for a long time, but I put a lot of wear on my CRV making it do truck-stuff. The Slate will get added as a secondary vehicle and take the brunt of the dirty work, and hopefully give the CRV a much longer life than it will otherwise have.

My Slate will be my new "daily" driver (being retired, I actually drive maybe twice a week max, and that's just into town for errands/trash). I have other cars for other purposes, but honestly most of my driving will be in the Slate.

We are a 2 vehicle family, but in reality maybe a handle of days a year the wife actually makes a trip alone, usually which ever vehicle it’s both of us. Has had her 2024 Ascent 19 months and just broke 3k. My Tundra is our daily and for the most part the Slate will replace because I can charge for free. Don’t really expect wife to drive Slate any more than the Tundra, which is mostly when I can’t or shouldn’t.

And even then it's "until" and the accepted shortened version is "till" with two Ls (but both are considered corret)
Um... no.

"Till" is a cashbox or the drawer that pops out of a cash register.

The commonly accepted shortened version is til, while the proper shortened version is 'til.
