It looks like SLATE has pathetic EV efficiency. (and a rant).

Apologies if this has been said. TLDR 7 pages!

The Slate is not new tech. It's allegedly proven, "off the shelf", hardware. This is a design choice when the goal is total cost and not earth shattering efficiency. Older hardware means lower range and slower charging and a lower cost.

If your goal is 0-60 times and commuting for days without charging, the Slate is not your jam.

The Slate getting ~2.8 miles per kwh wouldn't surprise me. As many others have mentioned, that's mostly a function of aerodynamics, and it's not exactly an ideal shape. That's similar to the Honda Prologue which a has a similar shaped front end at least. On the bright side, it should be less affected by external conditions, and the actual range should vary less. On something like a Lucid Air that's designed to eek out all the efficiency it can to get 5.0 mi/kwh, that drops way off once you're in anything other than ideal conditions. Whereas the big battery GMs like the Silverado and Hummer basically get 1.8 mi/kwh regardless of conditions.

If you wanted your slate to be more efficient, get the fastback top and 3d print a rounded nose cone. Then throw the pizza cutter wheels from a BMW i3 on it. You could probably push it closer to 4.0 mi/kwh like that.

Did you ever have an ICE that came close to MPG sticker values? My Rivian R1T averaged around 2.3 mi/kwh in hilly Pennsylvania, while folks on the Rivian forums in the flat Midwest were boasting near 4 mi/khw or more. I can’t take the sticker to my electric utility and also them to refund the difference between sticker and empirical range.
My ICEV have been within or exceeded the EPA MPG ratings and have never been below. I keep very strict fuel records for my vehicles.
