From Ford’s article on their EV truck:

“Our big bet for electric vehicles? Obsessing over the vehicle as a system to get more miles out of a smaller battery and radically simplifying the system to reduce the number of parts so we can deliver a new family of affordable electric vehicles to driveways around the world.”

Sound familiar? 🧐
I'm drawing a blank...

I think it'll be a little different but still look okay. Ford usually gets at least a base hit with the looks of their designs, though the Mach-E is a little polarizing. Here are a couple renderings, though I don't really trust that they actually match up with the wind tunnel sim picture even though I asked for them to do that:

From everything I've seen about the Mach-E, the only polarizing thing about it was using the Mustang nameplate. I'm sure there are design cues that could be polarizing, but that happens on every car. Calling it a Mustang though...

What reaction can we expect if they call the tech-heavy, aero-optimized, 4-door Midsized Pickup-ish EV a Ranchero?

Mach E + Honda PHEV
Mid sized EV truck similar to the Ford Ranger is perfect for me!

Looking forward to this new design as a Ford BEV owner.

Coming from the super expensive & heavy F150 Lightning BEV that did not fit my garage nor as a daily driver, I love my current Mach E BEV and now looking forward to the Ford's mid sized BEV truck.

48V architecture - much more efficient. Easy to find 48V-12VDC high efficiency converters (I used to work in in the POTS telco industry).

LFP batteries w/ 300 mile range - perfect for warm / hot weather climate & get to charge to 100% every time like I do now.

UEV design: Simpler, less parts, easier for repairs/parts, unicasting body parts, less modules mean easier updates.

Best feature: $30K price point!

Gigacastings, 48V low-voltage architecture, and control module consolidation...

Sounds right out of the Tesla design and manufacturing playbook.

The Ford's side mirrors are pretty cool. They appear to have frameless glass kind of like the Polestar 2. There aren't too many good angles of them in the video, but you can sort of see them here:

Just ask Sandy Munro (former Ford engineer) about those side mirrors. Decades ago, Sandy demonstrated how the mirrors were a major contributor to reduced range and aerodynamics. Some 40 years later, looks like Ford is now listening with their new EV universal platform. Better late than never.

I don't get why the charge port door has to be power driven. Seems like antithesis to the less parts/more simplification meme.
