I have no intention of using a phone or a tablet. I know really old school.
That’s what I thought when I bought the Tesla. Onboard navigation and gps, and 18 inch screen spoiled me, and just give it an address to drive to without intervention is a game changer not only on trips, but for traffic, accidents or construction. I never had a screen or even back up camera in any vehicle, now anything else feels antique. I know this will too. It’s a back up vehicle for me at 1/4 the price.

USAA dings me if I touch my phone while driving. If it is operated through CarPlay then it is fine. Also, the icons are small and it would be difficult to find and select icons. With CarPlay only CarPlay enabled apps show and the icons are much bigger making it easy to operate without putting my reading glasses on.
How does USAA detect that?

Lenovo makes a tablet with a built in speaker. Lenovo Tab Plus 2 is a new model that should give a pretty good audio experience for a simple fix.

Phone for me, don't need a redux LOL. Although it's inconspicuous carrying a tablet.

I remember popping off the face of my radio and carrying into the store with me. That was an upgrade from this photo. Still a PITA.

Then one day they discovered cutting out the catalytic converters and thieves no longer wanted to deal with radios.

No catalytic converter here, which puts the radio back on the target for Slate owners!

I’ll be waiting for the aftermarket to come up with a replacement for Slate’s phone holder that has MagSafe.

Going with my phone. Keeps it charged for when I leave, and makes it one less thing I have to take with me or hide from thieves.

At this point, I'm leaning toward tablet, but, the truth is I'm undecided. I've found my iphone 11 somewhat awkward to use in my Tacoma.

If you go for an iPad, you’ll want cellular, if only for the GPS, if not music and radio station streaming. My Gen 6 Mini has its own TMobile line but I’ll only use the iPhone in the truck.

I’ll only be using an iPad, and definitely only when I’m not driving. My Apple Watch is my only phone (I’m essentially tethered to my wife’s iPhone like a child). Any updates to the Slate will have to be done in my driveway within range of our WiFI, or maybe in the Starbucks parking lot.

I'll be installing an android auto head unit but will probably still use the phone mount.
