I literally copy-pasted the numbers off Ford's builder.

The $150 option is for the receiver hitch.
This includes the "employee pricing for everyone" and assumes a participating dealership.
It does not include the $1-2k dealer fee.

Can you get one for cheaper? Sure, if you hit the dealership when they need a sale to make a quota, let them bump your interest rate 3 points, and you are good at haggling.

That does not include employee pricing. That is original MSRP.

Only crappy dealers add mandatory dealer fees (other than doc which Slate will still have, too). In a normal market, not an issue.

ETA and you still have lease selected.

Yes they all charge Doc Fees but they vary so much from dealer to dealer and even location. They charge what they think they can get away with. Around here I see them from as low as a couple hundred dollars to as much as $2,000 dollars. Most of it is pure profit. Depends on how greedy the dealer is.

Yup. And you are free to shop at the $200 one instead of the $2000 one.

I think the 180k people that put in a Slate reservation would have just bought a Maverick if it was more desirable to them. I do think the Maverick will continue to be successful though I suspect they will lose some fleet customers to Slate. Re: @RetiredOnPaper's point. Front drive cars are not optimal tow vehicles because tongue weight unloads the front tires. Think of a see-saw where the rear tires are the fulcrum. Pressing down on the hitch causes the vehicle to rotate around the rear axle. It is more pronounced going up hill because that will also shift weight balance rearward.
I've looked at the Maverick and test driven it. For me it is too compromised because it only comes in a 4-door cab. The rear seat is jokingly small for a normal-sized adult and the need for the rear seat space makes the bed too small. If you are Harry Homeowner and have kids, I can see a Maverick fitting the bill. But I just don't understand why Ford does not make a 2-door cab version of either the Ranger or the Maverick. The Slate is going to replace my Hummer HT3, so I will be losing the only 4-door 2-row seat vehicle I have in my fleet. Not a big deal since I really have no need to transport more people other than my wife. The Bronco has a quite roomy back seat as long as you can get back in there to sit in it - LOL, so it will do in a pinch.

Just for edification the Maverick when equipped with the 4,000-pound tow package is only available with the AWD model.

He had to hear it somewhere, it probably predates him. But he is about 100 now isn’t he? At least he looked like he was 25 years ago lol
C'mon now. The 2nd part of the lyric is 'You get what you need!'

I was worried you thought Mick Jagger was your Mom [could be possible knowing Mick's public persona...].

It's possible that dirt does not pre-date Mick Jagger. Just sayin'

Base Maverick with employee pricing is at $27,884 plus destination.
No acquisition (not leasing). Tax title fees not included.

$29,729 w/ destination - $900 Ford Pass rewards - $1000 local farm Ford incentive - $1000 trade in cash assist = $26,929.

We have in the household an old Honda that did not pass smog check and qualifies for $1350 CA BAR rebate if we dispose of it thru a dismantler.

Gas - I don't have a mini refinery or oil well, but do have a 6.5KW solar generator.
I like your example better! I try to make the same point by saying that I can't go around siphoning gas from abandoned cars because modern ones are equipped with a baffle of some sort in the tank to prevent that. That is the most economical way to get free gas. 🤷

What's the old Honda? If it's a reliable runner in decent shape that just can't pass emissions you can almost certainly get more for it than $1350 selling it out of state.

Good luck finding one for that. You will have to order one special to get the base price and zero options. Dealerships tend not to stock base models with no options. No profit margin in them. Even then you run into the possibility the discounts won’t be available when it arrives. And many people don’t qualify for all the discounts.
Here is the cheapest Maverick my local dealer has.
