I watched the repair pal video "selling" service centers on doing Slate work... The upshot is, if you have a repair pal nearby that already has a High Voltage Certification (ASE or equivalent), then they will likely sign up for Slate service since it would be no additional cost to them.

I actually have a Firestone just a couple of miles away that is already servicing Teslas along with several others within 10 miles.

They have three levels: accessory installation, low voltage repair, & high voltage repair. They also have vinyl wrapping as a separate specialty that can be added to any of those three levels.

Next time I get out to the shop my mother uses, I intend to ask. I did notice a repairpal sign last time I was there, but there was another customer waiting to pay, so didn't want to delay them by getting into a discussion. I had brought up the Slate to the owner back before repairpal was announced by Slate.
I am wondering how much awareness shops even have of the Slate, it may be minimal, that webinar may have been just one of multiple, and shops that hadn't heard of the Slate may have ignored it. When Slate starts to get some more awareness in general, maybe as soon as the 24th, more shops may sign on.

Looking ahead to the future, I have looked into Repair Pal. This is our choice for Service if needed? When I put in my local ZIP Code, I did not like the choice of Repair shops. It had given me. Has anyone else looked into this?

It looks like my nearest Repair Pal facility is 180 miles away. Not quite sure how this will work in rural area!

I also just checked on RepairPal providers today. Those currently in my area are so-so. I would like to think that Slate is going to really vet these shops. It may be possible that they will find shops not currently on the RepairPal selector list, and add them where appropriate.

I managed the service provider selection for Saturn when the brand wound down after the GM bankruptcy. We had strong standards for the GM dealers who were in locations close to former Saturn retailers. Saturn owners expected a customer focused service experience, so a lot of work went into the service provider selection. A new brand like Slate can't afford a poor service experience, so I hope (and expect) that they will do the right thing.

The best possible service scenario is to not service. I know it may not come to fruition, but if we can go for years without needing repair services the location and quality of service will be a non issue. 🤞

My hope is that the vehicle can receive ‘OTA’ updates via the cell phone app which will greatly minimize the need to travel to a repair shop. If we see a problem with the hardware well that’s another story.

Do your homework SLATE and deliver us a solid, reliable platform.

Do they think the rates are too low? Is it because something that takes an hour on another vehicle takes 15 minutes on the Slate?
Also, "Quality shops don't work with Repairpal" but this is coming from a Repairpal shop?

I asked for clarification as I was very surprised but this was one of 10 shops close to me…they just had relatively high ratings

If RepairPal refers a customer to the shop, they get something like a 10% commission. I assume that if you go to a RP shop because you searched for one on Slate's app and made an appointment through it, or needed warranty work, that would count.

RepairPal also charges shops a monthly fee to stay on the network. I think it's something like $150/month?

Obviously if this Atlanta Speedwerks is part of the network, they are paying the monthly fee, but they probably don't much care for the 10% commission.
