Looking ahead to the future, I have looked into Repair Pal. This is our choice for Service if needed? When I put in my local ZIP Code, I did not like the choice of Repair shops. It had given me. Has anyone else looked into this?

I see there is one in my town. I am not familiar with them, though I have not lived her long enough to have an opinion of they are good or not.

My closest Repair Pal is about 100 miles right now, and that is in a small town. Hopefully there will be more shops in closer large cities signing up by the time delivery starts.

Keep in mind that you don't automatically have Slate warranty service at any Repair Pal location. The individual locations have to "sign up" for Slate work. And also keep in mind that "signing on" happens in various capacities. A site might agree to do handyman stuff like wraps or accessories, but not electrical system work.

Hopefully on 24 June Slate will provide clarity on what Repair Pal sites have signed up for what type of work. Even better, though I don't expect it, would be a mobile service announcement.

To restate: Just because you have a Repair Pal location down the street does not mean they will do warranty (or non warranty) work on your Slate. Slate has been very slippery about Repair Pal service to date.

PS: When rodents chew through your wiring harness (I've had this happen) and you need your truck flatbed towed for repair, you find out really quickly how customer-focused your OEM is (or is not) on customer service.

Yeah, big problem on some early Teslas with soy based insulation. I believe Tesla refused to honor the warranty for repairs in mostly all cases.

I searched for their facilities in my area and many came up. They seem to be well established independent shops. Last month when my daily driver needed new belts, I reached out to mobile mechanics on FB and sent a message through the RepairPal website asking for a quote. I never got a reply. It was a one-hour job with customer-supplied parts, so no surprise. I did find a new mobile team that helped me out.

The website allows one to ask for a quote and book an appointment. You all can try to reach out with your current car and see what happens.

How do you all rodent-proof your EVs and gas cars? I have tried all sorts of gadgets and now rely mostly on traps.

I was hit in two different homes, both where I parked outside, a decade apart. I now use a mint spray. Does it work? Well, it's hard to prove a negative. A gazillion choices at Amazon or your local Lowes. I spray the engine bay and the driveway under the truck once a month.

Back in CT, my spark plug wires were chewed through and they built a nest in the air cleaner. I had left the truck parked outside while I was away for a month. Perfect rodent home.

Here in NC, I also park outside. This time it was an unknown rodent (probably a squirrel) chewing through the wire harness. Happily I was free towed by Ford Roadside Assistance, which runs for 5 years or 50,000 miles. Note to Slate - forward leaning customer service policies like that pay off with owner loyalty.

Oh, and I can personally attest that cats don't necessarily work.

Had a rodent nest in a Taurus I owned once, under the hood and in the back and partially on top of the exhaust manifold. I'm lucky it didn't catch fire.
I didn't drive the car for about 48 hours. They acted quickly. It was late fall and cold, the warm engine probably felt nice. I only know it was about 48 hours because I had gotten under the hood to check the oil the the day I came back 48-hours before to check the levels. I was due for an oil change. Anyway, I used moth balls under hood for a bit, until that stunk up the cabin, then used some mint spray as well. No more rodents. But who knows if it really worked, or I got lucky.
Side note, the oil change guy I had driven to told me that something about Ford wire wraps seems to attract more rodents than others. At least in his anecdotal evidence. I found that interesting. They cleaned it out for me at no cost. Thanks Valvoline!

So far I haven't had wiring damage from rodents, but anything parked outside for more than a few days will have mouse nests in it. My current commuter is a civic that sat for a few years, and it was absolutely full of mouse poop. I have my family's assorted beaters all parked inside now, with a variety of traps around to deal with the rodents.

With what you said in mind, now I am even more uncomfortable with “Service “of any kind in the foreseeable future for a Slate vehicle.

There are none in the Sioux falls area.

Oh that wasn't my intent at all. I wasn't trying to troll or be a fear monger. Just making sure people read the fine print and think through what they're signing up for. Here's hoping Slate comes out with a really reassuring update on service later this month.

If I could suggest one thing, and only one thing, to the people at Slate. It would be "Mobile Repair". Hey that doesn't handle really serious work, but it covers flashing a controller, or the little stuff. In your driveway or in the parking lot at work.

Mobile service rocks. I know my Ford Mobile Service Tech, Ben, pretty well, and he's given me great advice. There's nothing like having service done in your driveway and being able to talk to the tech before and after.

Since there's not an option to select Slate as the Vehicle Make on the Repair Pal site, I don't think we know anything definitive about Slate repair locations yet.
I also noticed Slate not mentioned in the repair pal list of makes, which would actually make sense if you would working on getting people signed up and didn't want to list until there was a list. When I plug "Tesla" into the make I get four within 6 miles (central PA) Be a good bet if they work on that, they would work on an EV that is.much simpler. My plan is to pay a visit to each and see if they do closer to paying the $250 and get some confidence there before purchase.
