I'm thinking, at least short term after I buy the slate, this tablet with line-out and a mini amp to two speakers either in-door or the slate ones that go behind the dash panels

I'll use this while figuring out what exact components I want for a full double din mid-range installation with sub

Getting into a Slate and wiring up my own audio system takes me back to my early 20's when I got my first Toyota truck. From that experience I learned how to fix almost anything. I replaced my carburetor, starter, water pump, radiator, belts, oil changes, exhaust, brakes, and a tuneup with points, plugs and a timing light. Did a lift kit for the rear coil springs. Man, how things have changed.

It will be good to feel like a kid again.

Nothing Fun
I am going with my iPhone and Bluetooth it to some sort of powered speaker. My JBL Bluetooth speakers work well in the house, garage, and on my bicycle, so why not in the Slate.
Just secure this in the cab, find a power source, and good to go. I have one it and works great in the garage.

Or this behind the seats like the sound bar in the second pic.

Ok. I have one in my garage that sounds pretty good but I get the acoustics of the truck may turn it to garbage. I will give my current one a try first.

Quality between bluetooth speakers from different companies varies, a lot. Anker was the first I know of that came out with speakers that sounded good, and sounded like a larger speaker, in like 2014. The right bluetooth speaker should do well in a truck, a positive is the enclosed space, but a negative is even with the quiet electric motor, there will still be road noise to overcome. It's going to take some testing with the actual production trucks to see what works and what doesn't.
