Slate could become “the Glock of trucks” — rugged, stripped down, utterly dependable.

If it does, that would be impressive. New car companies have problems that come out after release, just because of the sheer numbers they have over their testing numbers.

That’s all auto makers, not just Slate.

The Slate will have problems and recalls just like everyone else. Just part of life.

Damn that’s good. Look forward to seeing Slate run with that in a commercial. “Get to da Choppa, in a Slate.”

In 1974, a car magazine compared
the new and novel Honda Civic
to the Colt Peacemaker.
I promptly went out and bought one.

After 120,000 miles I sold it to a man
who planned to drive to Nicaragua
where it would become a taxicab.
It is still my favorite vehicle of all time.
But I digress.

The Glock analogy may hold true,
but my concerns are these:

You can't dance in an elephant herd.
Other car makers are huge
and have the money, economies of scale,
marketing and resources
to pivot and crush newcomers.

How to identify a pioneer:
He's the one with arrows in his back.
Entering an existing market
draws heavy resistance.

Have you ever heard of Elio Motors?
I still have the T-shirt.

Elio Motors didn't have the same level of funding or brand awareness that Slate currently has. It's hard bringing a car to market but Slate has the best chance in my opinion of doing that imo. But they really need to come out by 2027 since all the legacy manufacturers are developing more affordable tech focused EV's. Everything they have put out now is just basically something to have out in the market (with varying levels of effort) while they develop these fleet of vehicles.

It's no secret that they are all aiming for a sub-30K EV, Slate needs to release before that. Once it is released and they have developed and streamlined production they could probably make the Slate even more affordable. But this early in it's life, timing will be important.

okay…. Hear me out. If slate is the Glock of trucks. Does that mean we could create ghost slates by 3d printing the vin identifiable component???
I cringe at the fact I even typed that. 😂😂😂

I do love that Glocks like a Slate are the easiest to upgrade for more features / benefits the regular owner can customize: lights, lasers, night sights, triggers, magazine capacities, interoperable caliber change frame, slide change, recoil control porting,, etc...

Every EV startup until now has not shown any promise, the exception being Tesla, which has defined the EV space. I like the comparison of the Slate to your 1974 Honda- a vehicle that is very minimalist and designed to be good at commuting. Keep it small, simple and efficient with an eye towards quality and it will crush. You can’t build a better car by doing what every other manufacturer does. Being a privately held company with strong financial backing, I really think they got what it takes to get off the ground.
