Maybe Im being slow, but ive been wondering what the model name for the truck will be? Ive done some searching but havent been able to figure it out.

is it the Slate "Truck"? maybe the "Blank" or something else? if it hasnt been announced yet, what do you think it will be?

They used "SL8" somewhere, but I don't think they've confirmed a model name.

I’d be happy if just Slate and they reserved modifications to future models.

I think it doesn’t need a model name since truck uniquely identifies it. Back in the early days of the Japanese trucks I didn’t think they had names other than truck. Once they came out will a full size than they came out with names to differentiate. (I.e. Frontier/Titan, Tacoma/Tundra). Though did Isuzu name their’s P’up?

"P'up" is the colloquial name for it, the official name is Isuzu Pickup.

interesting though, I think youre probably right and it will be just "Truck". but then it gets interesting if you purchase the SUV version.

Internally they called it FN1 for ā€œFreaking Nuts 1ā€ since that’s how awesome they thought the truck was. Showing that for the leadership which almost all are auto executive veterans or at the very least car guys, this is a true passion project for them.

But yeah the closest thing is the ā€œBlank Slateā€ or ā€œSlate Truckā€ for a model name. Don’t hate it with every single identifiable feature easily removable having the brand and model name be the same helps mitigate any loss to brand awareness from a marketing perspective. It’s also easily usable for other models like the Slate Car, Slate Van, Slate Cross, Slate Truck XL, etc

I'm hopeful for a Slate Roadster someday, maybe with a Slate Hatch adaptation. Miata or even S2000 size, 150 mile range, RWD. Just the bare essentials necessary to get 2 people up a winding road.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was officially called Truck. I don't remember the source so there's like a 50% chance it was actually reliable.

While this is unconfirmed, Consumer Reports lists it as the ā€œEV Pickupā€ for the model name.

The Nissan hardbody is what they called the 2nd generation of truck that Nissan sold. The earlier Datsun’s had a single wall bed so a dent in the interior wall of the bed was a dent in the exterior of the bed. I don’t think that was actually a model name. Said another way, when you look at a Nissan hardbody truck there is no badge that says hardbody. Conversely, Nissan Frontier’s have a badge on the tailgate that says Frontier and that is the model of the truck.

You can technically get away with a Single name car. Chrysler, for 3 years, spun Imperial off as its own marque and had a single car. Just Imperial.*

Let's hope it does better in reliabaility than that one did...

*US only, Canada still retained it as Chrysler Imperial
