I think it would be really cool to have a DIY center at the plant where a person could take delivery of their slate and accessories

There could be an area for the new owner to add on the accessories with someone guiding them

This would give a chance for a person to get some familiarity with their vehicle

They could also have a person to walk the customer through ownership of an EV: charging, washing, care, maintenance, proper planning a trip with charging stations, what apps you will need ect.

They could even help the individual plan their road trip home

just a thought

It will probably happen like some manufacturers in the US. I remember BMW had that option years ago but not sure if they still do.

Not sure if I would want to road trip across country with my first EV. Range anxiety and charging location anxiety could ruin the trip for me

I kind of agree on the road trip back

but trial by fire!!

also if it’s winter that could suck!!

I really like this idea. Slate should work with the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce to package this up. I hear the Anthology Whiskey Room is a pretty good spot.

I live in Vegas, but bought my Maverick in Iowa. The dealer picked me up at the airport, had the truck ready, and I was out of there in an hour. I'm from Iowa, so I stayed at mom's for a week or so before I drove back. Not sure I'd like to do that with my first EV.

I agree, for most it would probably be a NO

but how about you could choose to fly or drive there, tour the plant, sign for your Slate, do the upfitting in their "Slate University DIY Shop" with a Slate Accessory Tech overseeing it, then go through an optional "New EV Owners Seminar" and then if you would like you can choose to take it on a road trip home or ship it to a drop off location near you - ALL OPTIONAL

I probably would drive it home, and since I have never owned an EV I would be the guy that stopped every 100 miles (I'd buy the extended battery to get 250 miles worth but still stop at 100 miles at first) to "top off" until I learned the vehicle

hell id probably take a week off vacation to be able to go down there and donate time to build some (maybe that's offering too much)

its 11.5 hours plus a bunch of charging time to get back to Barnesville, Minnesota from the plant (pretty cool place looking at google maps)

I'd be getting the small battery, and there's 2200 miles of wide open country between them and me. I'll pass on local pickup, but would definitely enjoy watching a few vlogs from those of you up to the journey.

2,225 miles for me if I go the scenic middle route with stops at Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse at about the midway point of the drive. i90 almost the whole way.

That would be cool. I might make the trip. Also would be cool to watch yours come down the line and be assembled. Then I’ll develop range anxiety on how to drive it all the way back to Maryland - haha

Cali coast, soon to be Oregon coast, so the trip would be daunting to say the least. I like the idea of build to own, though...Id fly out and help with finally assembly on my unit, or others if offered free upgrades like range packs, etc. for my effort.
