Slate Auto Pickup Truck The Ram 1500 REV Electric Pickup Truck Is Dead! 1757868468549-hs

Ram 1500 REV Electric Pickup Truck Is Dead Before It Could Pile Up on Dealer Lots
"As demand for full-size battery electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup. As part of this, Ram is renaming its REEV-powered pickup to Ram 1500 REV (formerly Ramcharger). This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability, and payload performance."

My takeaway:
You may recall this is the same guy, CEO Tim Kuniskis, that told CNBC that he didn’t think buyers would spring for the most basic versions of the Slate truck. The real answer is, they cannot compete with Slate and avoiding ev technology altogether.

My guess is they realize the extended range version would outsell the battery- only and are concentrating on where the sales are.

if the reev was half the size I’d be interested.

When seasoned buyers of pickup trucks see the word RAM, what they don't expect is a truck that hauls just 1,400 pounds and tows just 1,000 pounds. They expect a real truck.

I bet you're right. The other company that is working on an extended-range EV pickup is VW, through the revived Scout brand. It's been reported that 81% of Scout SUV/pickup pre-orders are for the "Harvester" extended-range system, with a gasoline engine acting as a generator. Only 19% of pre-orders are for the fully electric version.

If Ram doesn't end up calling their Ram that Charges itself the RamCharger that'll be the most Stellantis thing I've ever seen.

Are those the limitations of the now dead EV only Ram? Because those aren't anywhere close to the numbers for a Ford Lightning or Silverado EV.

Hopefully this means the monkeys over at Stellantis can focus on making the Ramcharger a quality product around 60k.
That was my take too. Coming from a current Lightning owner, the Ramcharger will meet the market much better, IMO....

Stellantis is a disaster that won't survive the decade. Jeep and Ram are used as profit centers to steer money to a too-large number of disastrous, money-losing European brands. Stellantis will not survive in its current form.

Only an idiot would take the manly-man Jeep, Dodge, and Ram brands and try to make them tofu quiche eater vehicles (and that's from a guy who loves a good quiche). They should fire that guy. Oh wait, they did.

Dodge needs to rumble and shake and scream Nascar. When ICE dies, Dodge should die.

I was replying to the OP's comment:

In response I said, " When seasoned buyers of pickup trucks see the word RAM, what they don't expect is a truck that hauls just 1,400 pounds and tows just 1,000 pounds. They expect a real truck." Meaning RAM would never make such a lightweight (in capability) truck; the RAM customer would not expect it nor buy it. Conversely, the new-to-EV-truck buyer would not look to RAM for a lightweight truck offering.

Hope that clarifies it.

I'd be interested to see if Ram ever offers a Dakota-style pickup. I loved the old Dakota RT. Such a fun little truck
Agree! In my view the Dakota really started the mid-sized pickup revolution. And it was great you could get a V8 in it.

I don't know how I should feel about the flood of cancelled BEV projects. Part of me says "fine", because anybody cancelling a BEV was only doing a half-hearted effort to comply. So let them fall behind and fail.

Another part of me is sad that so many of us little people will lose jobs when those OEMs go under next decade - because their product is so sadly uncompetitive. BEVs are coming. BEVs will rule. It's science and technology, not politics. But the CEOs get paid for this quarter, not a quarter that's a decade away. So zero incentive for them to take the long view and set up a company for success.

The now-fired CEO of Stellantis famously cut funds for product development. For a year, Stellantis had industry leading profit numbers. They were the darlings of Wall Street. Money flowed like wine. Now they are scrambling to survive. You cannot not (sorry for the double negative) invest in future product in the auto industry. It is like taking a knife to your own throat.

I dunno.... the projects were "full steam" when there was an artificial incentive to sell them, now they are dead when the playing field is "level" (less the everlasting oil subsidies, but that's another topic). Companies are canceling these projects as a result of demand swings... to say they will go out of business for matching what sells feels to be a stretch.

Unless, of course, some new government mandate comes in stronger and faster.

I think Stellantis will die, but not because of EVs or lack thereof.
