What Would You Do if The Slate Truck Does Not Manifest?

I'm in a similar boat as most here. I'd be looking at the Slate like a fun second/third vehicle for us. My primary car is a 2013 Prius with only 110k miles on it so far - I think I'm going to be waiting an awfully long time if I'm waiting for that car to give out on me, and I just couldn't justify trading it in.

If the Slate does not ship, I'll then look back into getting a Kei truck or doing a Smyth Ute conversion. I want a small truck truck, the EV is bonus, and the customizability will be fantastic.

Same here - waiting for the Ford new EV truck.

If Slate does not appear, I'd get the Ford since I already love my Mach e EV.

I feel like all roads lead to a used Bolt for me. I'd love a Telo but for that kind of money I could buy a used Bolt and a couple years of college for the kid. (And if Slate fails I'm not optimistic about Telo.)

Bolt would seem like the next logical progression to me when considering the series Prius C, 500e, Leaf. Bigger and more capable small hatchback.

I think people looking for a cheap transportation appliance for commuting, or the SUV 5-seater form factor have a much harder decision to make. The value proposition for those two use cases is there, but not very strong, and there is strong competition.

People looking for a compact EV truck still have no other options to consider. If the Slate doesn't ship, I keep the Tacoma and wait.

For primarily SUV use I dont love it. But if you are primarily using it as a truck, but sometimes want to take more people then the value could be there.

True, the ability to change in the future is a nice plus. A Bolt will comfortably carry 4, but can't be converted to or from a truck.

And our future options are currently unknowable. The old OEMs have a long habit of holding their cards close to their chests until the last instant - especially the Japanese makers. So come this time 2027, who knows what options to the Slate might be not only announced, but shipping. Toyota is famous for revealing a vehicle nobody expected and saying "you can buy it today".

For me there are no other options. The Slate is the only truck on the market that will fit in my garage. My ‘08 Corolla will have to do until another truck like the Slate comes to market.

Yeah I don't actually need a truck, but I want a small EV and I love the Slate minimalistic philosophy, so I can put up with it being a truck. And occasionally I might use the bed.

Maybe this time it'll be the car I own long enough to someday get collector plates for.
