Well, I admit, I’m probably a little biased after seeing the tri-motor Cybertruck go from a $70K estimate at reveal to $100K at delivery. We’ve already gone from under 20K to mid 20s for the estimate for the Slate, so I say $30K at release.
The price they're advertising hasn't changed, they've been saying mid-20s from the start. The under 20k was after the tax credit that no longer exists.

No chance. 150 mi range will be $30K, long range will be $34K. I’ve followed EVs longer than I care to admit and that’s the unfortunate truth. But I’d love to be proven wrong as I do want one of these! If it’s $35K, which I don’t anticipate, I’ll just get a used Model 3 with more than twice the towing capacity. It has way more to offer as far as stereo and autopilot abilities. Slate needs to be cheaper than used cars to succeed and I’m rooting for them!
I also really want one of these but you can get a brand new Prius hybrid for 29k that has a range of over 600 miles per tank, plus Carplay and all the fancy bells and whistles people love to have.

I think long range is going to be about 30-32k plus taxes. I still have my pre-order in but I may be waiting until the option to have the inventive back comes up again after 2028.

Going to be $30k for a completely blank Slate by the time it launches. No paint, no radio, no nothing except it's $30k. I'm out.

There's still opportunities for state EV credits with these states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Oregon. My original plan was to purchase in Colorado, to get both state and federal, as my new home state of Texas has no state incentives. I'll still order and purchase in Colorado, and trailer the Slate home on a flatbed, and save $7500. Just an option to consider.

I don't think you can really do that. If you are not a Colorado resident paying income taxes in Colorado you are not eligible for the Colorado tax credit.

Read the fine print. The “under $20K” price was after federal incentives which have now been abolished thanks to our current wreckless federal government (I’m including Congress). Mid-20s without the federal incentives has always been Slate’s position/target since day one. Go back and watch the launch video.

AutoNation dealer I spoke to in Colorado reduce the cost of the vehicle by the rebate amount, and then claimed the tax credits, respective of new/used rebate on their end. Sounded like that was a tactic most used to help move ev inventory. There were specifics though, it had to be under $35k vehicle, and a domestic brand, Chevy, Ford, so no Hyundai, Nissan. However, that was before the federal rebate got axed, and I haven't talked with anyone since last October. I had looked at a on the lot holdover '23 Chevy Bolt on my last trip out, and out the door cost for me would have been $13k with state $7500 and federal $7500 incentives reduction. The used Mach E was $29k with the rebates. I didn't buy then, didn't figure we'd be where we are today.

It will be 30k. Still in.

In my mind comparisons to a Maverick/Prius/Tesla are moot. I want a bare bones, tiny pickup and I want it to be electric. The fact that you coule get something bigger or more fancy has 0 appeal to me. I would pay extra to not have backseat I'll never use, a touchscreen I will hate, an engine I will have to maintain, window motors to break, etc...

My expectation for a Blank Slate Standard Range is 25K-27K. It's a hard sell for a bare bones truck at 30K. Either way the key for Slate is going to have the most attractive monthly payment financing options.
Bingo!! You hit the nail on the head. In years past, the Big 3 made more money off their finance arms than you might believe. So if Slate can figure how to circumvent the rip-off banking world (good luck!) they might be able to offer lease or finance options that still put monthly costs below what a used car is each month. It still baffles me how used car loans are so much higher than new.Yes...I understand math and economics so please don't go there...

The as designed and advertised battery chemistry isn’t the lowest cost. Instead it was specifically picked by Slate to qualify for federal credits. If the fed credits are no longer in play, a lower cost battery might be used and could keep the price down a bit.
