Really? I would think electric, and the short range would be counterintuitive to prepper mindset. Interesting to hear!
IANAP, but with solar charging you could achieve Personal Energy Independence and prepare for disappearance of fuel sources.

As AZFox said it's about not being reliant on fuel. We have ample solar/battery (to be in independent of the grid). And the short range isn't a hindrance because you won't want to stray far from your "home base" which is our ranch. "Bugging out" would be a last resort and we would take our Mazda CX-90 with a trailer.

Is it still true that you can run cars on moonshine? That seems like a great prepper strategy!

Makes sense. I was thinking an evac situation, not a hunker down situation

Makes me chuckle a bit. Here our concerns are earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and to some extent fire. We have friends on the CERT team. They consider our house the emergency place to go if others need to bug out. Being totally off grid, we are self sufficient but don’t have my own ham radio, neighbors do. Hmmmm, maybe I should invest into a charging station. 😁

You live on a volcano in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and you are worried about a doomsday event? Just sayin'

Nope, not really
Kinda amazing, hear on the news like the recent Texas flooding, recent tornadoes, wild fires, etc and Thank God. We are blessed.

Could go with a dedicated automotive grade tablet. Police are using these for the most part and squad cars mostly sit in the sun with no cabin overheat protection between shifts.

Since you mentioned it, cabin overheat protection is definitely a nice option. I doubt that Slate will have this feature. The only drawback is that it adds a drain to the battery. I’ve been doing fine without it. Instead I just use a windshield sun blind and it’s just as effective without the loss of range.

Close. That tablet would require a Windows version of the Slate app.

Gentac's two Android offering apparently cost well over $1,000 and run Android 13 from 2022, which I expect will reach end-of-life Real Soon Now.
