What kind of performance upgrades do you think will be available for the Slate?

Other than adding more motors or better motors, are there any aftermarket performance upgrades to add power to any ev's out there? I know Hyundai/Kia has the N series but that's from the factory. And Ford has a software upgrade to add more torque for $1000.00. But I'm thinking there's not much that can be done.

Interesting question. I'd imagine that this will come down the line after AWD.

I wouldn't expect any performance upgrades until they are well established if at all.

There are ways to increase performance without more power though, weight reduction suspension, wheels, tires, aero, etc. Aftermarket will fill the need if there is any demand for it, which I think there will be. This truck makes sense for the modding community.

The company that is producing the motor has a 200kw/268hp motor that looks like it could be swapped in.
Also, you could also change the programming to get more power.

I kind of share your enthusiasm on this go-around.

Let's get it out there, make sure it is reliable and easy to futz with, and then game on.

If one wants a ton of performance, Hyundai, Tesla, Rivian, and others have you covered.

While the concept is interesting, I don’t think we’ll see ‘Slate’ and ‘performance’ in the same sentence anytime soon. Expect upgrades to be purely cosmetic. Large wheels and a 2” lift will fit the bill for me.

i think the easiest change will be to extend the bed by 1-2 feet and then have a shorter cap so you have two rows of seats and some useable bed space.

Not expecting much, especially from Slate itself. Just thinking I'd like to surprise the other pickups out there. Not expecting Raptor type numbers or a canyon carver.

I totally forgot that the AWD will probably add another motor. Yeah, that would do it.

So true. In many ways, my little 1.9L Z3 was more fun to drive than my 2005 GTO with a 6.0L.

A lowering kit, some high-zoot Koni shocks, and some Michelin Pilot Sport or Pirelli P Zero tires might make Slate handle like a boss, who knows?

Low center of gravity and balanced front-to-rear weight distribution will help.

I know I'm an outlier, but in addition to a lowered suspension, I only want a Slate if it's RWD. So no adding power through front motors for me. On the other hand, if a 200kw motor was a reasonably direct replacement... That would be very tempting.

The standard pickup Slate with standard range battery is being claimed at basically the same power and weight as the Bolt, so I'd expect similar acceleration. That's perfectly acceptable to me. However, the extended range battery and SUV kits will certainly put those Slates behind the Bolt, and doubly so when combined... Despite being a decidedly 'drive a slow car fast' and 'simplify then add lightness' enthusiast, that's not a great look. A lot of it is going to come down to how much perception of speed Slate gives the driver though, especially without engine sound as part of the sensory experience.

And yes, despite it's truck/SUV form factor, it has the right ingredients for great handling potential right from the factory. Especially in lowered lightweight (std battery pickup) form, I'm cautiously optimistic that a Slate could be a lot of fun to autocross.
