Since the first of the year, there have been no scheduled vehicle tours and zero mention of a actual production date. Considering all early estimates had production dates for late this year, I find that concerning it's crickets thus far this year.

I would suspect if they were close to that time, we would be hearing something.

Just my $.02.

I think the production timeline is aggressive, but wouldn’t be concerned with the media releases. I follow Rivian (albeit not as closely) and they are much closer to release, with not a ton of press until very recently.

I was just looking at their "events" page the other day, and noticed that they hadn't updated it yet despite it saying "check back in the new year".
Just looked now and they've added an event in Fort Worth.

I'm as concerned about this as I am about them actually delivering to customers by the end of 2026...

Not.
At.
All.

I checked the events page yesterday and noticed nothing was posted and got me to thinking. Thus the thread.
Now I’m thinking road trip to Fort Worth from Houston is in my future.

I will not worry until July. Then I hope to see photos of lines of "body in white" show up. Getting that fabricated will be the bottle neck, lots of pieces need to be welded together, how they do that will be the "secret sauce". Battery pack next, motor, steering and wheels. If we see that, +++. Slate will be golden.

The fact that they already have so many beta prototypes to work with shows that they can produce these. Can they do it affordably and fast? The challenge.

Whoa! I like that version of the truck! With different bolt on body panels, that could be a real retro-looker!
I'm assuming that's a two-tone wrap, which is even easier.

The hula-hoop phase for EVs may be over.
Decreasing tax credits
and lower gasoline prices
have taken some of the spark out of EVs.
As well as the following.

AI Overview

Beyond range anxiety, major electric vehicle (EV) problems include battery degradation over time, significant performance drops in cold weather, and unreliable public charging infrastructure
. Other issues include higher purchase costs, longer refueling times, specialized tire wear, and complex, expensive repairs due to software glitches or faulty wiring.

Commonly Reported EV Issues
  • Battery Degradation: Batteries lose capacity over time, reducing range and resale value.
  • Charging Infrastructure & Reliability: Public chargers may be broken, unavailable, or have broken screens/cables.
  • Software and Electronics: Complex systems can have bugs, leading to malfunctions,, requiring reboots, or requiring dealer-only repairs.
  • Cold Weather Performance: Extreme cold significantly reduces battery efficiency and driving range.
  • High Upfront Costs & Insurance: Generally higher initial purchase prices and higher premiums due to expensive repair costs.
  • Fire Hazards: While rare, lithium-ion battery packs can face thermal runaway, especially after collisions.
  • Weight-Related Wear: The heavy weight of EVs causes faster, specialized tire wear.
  • Maintenance: While no oil changes, they can suffer from water ingress into electrical connectors, causing failures.
  • Depreciation: Many models suffer from faster depreciation compared to gas cars, particularly as battery warranties end
I am not a troll. I made my $50 deposit.
I have even installed solar panels
with the idea of using them to charge
an EV so it would be powered by the sun.
So just calm down out there.
Long term, EVs have a place for some of us.

Good luck with the coming storm.

New EVs, sure. The used market is incredibly appetizing now. Can get a 1y old with sub 20k miles for 50% of MSRP in a lot of cases, well equipped models.

I'm still not concerned with the frequency of Slate's updates. It's only January. If they stay quiet a couple more months, maybe, but I don't imagine there's a lot that would make sense to publish at the moment.

I agree EVs are not for everyone and they serve a purpose. Not going to replace the ICE anytime soon. I’m getting one for a few reasons. It will suit my needs perfectly. Daily commute of about 90 miles total. I just finished my new house build and had a dedicated 240v put in the garage for the sole purpose of charging my Slate.
I’m not buying one to save the planet (what a f’ing joke).
I’m buying one to save me money in the long run. Less miles, wear and tear on my ICE and way cheaper to drive fuel source wise.
