Then I shall use a credit card that will stand behind me in a chargeback in case Slate won't allow me to transfer to a family member or friend, if I bail after the $300 and before the purchase.

IANAL. The FTC has rules on this. It is legal if the company follows very specific guidelines. It has to be prominent. They have to follow thru with the promise, or you get a refund. And so on. Your credit card company will investigate your complaint and see if it is legal and within contract terms. Just asking for a chargeback is not automatic. Fair warning.

• Do reservation holders get earlier placement within their assigned delivery window based on preorder conversion time?

Quick answer: no. You get to see your delivery window just by logging in at 08:00 am ET. * That’s not going to change if you preorder at 08:01 am on 6/24; or up until 11:59 pm on 7/24.

When you execute the pre-order, you claim the assigned delivery window. Miss the 7/24 deadline, then your delivery window moves out to a future date.

Take into account those ludites sitting on the reservation fence, who will not convert their preorder to actual orders, it will be closer to 75% who may actually convert the order. I also applaud Slate for setting it up that the delivery window will already be set for each reservation, meaning i can sleep in for a few hours before joining you crazed fan boys and feeling joyful converting my own order. Let's keep it fun everyone!

Slate told me that your delivery window will likely not change due to people dropping out.. but they only said likely, not a firm no it will not change.

I am sure they have a percentage of drop outs factored in. So unless that percentage is way off it would not effect delivery.

Does anyone know if after you place the $250 deposit ($300 non refundable), can it be transferred to someone else ?
