Looks like Slate quietly updated the specs for the Blank Slate in the maker. The only meaningful specification changes I could find are the addition of Level 1 charging information and the revised Level 2 charging performance. Everything else looks like formatting or wording cleanup. changed:

Charging Updates
  • Level 1 charging was added
    • 20–80% charge in approximately 17 hours
  • Level 2 charging was updated
    • Increased from 25–32 miles of range per hour to 25–40 miles per hour
    • Full charge changed from 4–8 hours to 4 hours
  • Level 3 chargingremains the same:
    • 20–80% in around 30 minutes

68 amp level 2 charging? Would be interesting, but I'll bet that's an error. Their previous numbers worked out to 48 amp onboard charger which would put it closer to 6 hours.

I have to agree, 68 amps is dead wrong. That means the circuit breaker would need to be rated at 85 amps! (125% continuous current draw). As an example, Tesla on board chargers draw 32 max amps on a recommended 50 amp breaker @ 240 volts.

There's EVs that have 80 amp onboard chargers, but typically higher end vehicles. And yeah, it takes one hell of a circuit for that, haha.

There's EVs that have 80 amp onboard chargers, but typically higher end vehicles. And yeah, it takes one hell of a circuit for that, haha.
Hire a commercial electrician. Agree, that doesn't make sense for a home charger.

I think 4 hours is supposed to be the 10%-80% time. That would make sense.

240v at X ampsTime to charge 63kWh
24 amps/5.76kWh10.9 hrs
32 amps/7.68kWh8.20 hrs
40 amps/9.60kWh6.56 hrs
48 amps/11.5kWh5.48 hrs

Does this mean the Slate's onboard charger will allow an L1 charge at a continuous 16 amps if plugged into a dedicated 20 amp circuit?

I see the same thing, https://www.slate.auto/en/specs still shows 20 hours while the details under the Blank Slate at https://www.slate.auto/en/store/TB009 now says 17.

The math says that 60% (20 to 80) of 65 kWh is 39 kWh, at 120 VAC that's 325 amp-hours, if you have 20 hours you can do that at 16.25A (very close to a common 16A L1 charger, assuming 100% conversion efficiencies) or if you have 17 hours you need to charge at 19.1A (which is extremely uncommon).

Can you kindly share where the 68 amps for L2 charging is listed? I see that both chargers in the maker (classic level 2 black and white) are shown as 48 amps.

I worked backwards from 4 hour charge time to calculate the onboard charger size. What you're looking at is the EVSE that supplies power to the vehicle and onboard charger.

Except that the battery is only 63 kWh usable, not 65.

I am attempting to understand electricity here but I need someone to dumb this down for me. I had calculated that “20% to 80% in 20 hours” would be just enough for me, so I would stick with a regular outlet that looks like ( D= ). I believe the outlet is 15 amps. If I understand you correctly, you’re saying I need at least 16 amps? So my standard outlet won’t be enough?

If that’s the case, very misleading on Slate’s part.
