Regular home electricity is 12.4 cents per KW

our electric company has 2 ev charging rates (need special meter installed)
10pm - 8am 6.46 cents
8am - 10pm no charging

8pm -8am 8.9 cents
8am -4pm 17cents
4pm -8pm 40-50 cents

my question is: if I come home at 5:30pm and needed a top off before the evening why wouldn’t I plug into a welder outlet in my outbuilding at 12.4 cents per KW instead of using the 40-50 cent plan

I understand I may need another charger in the outbuilding

my electric company has a $500 credit for the purchase of a charger and there are some reasonably priced chargers on the internet

I don't know, why wouldn't you? Make sense to me. You wouldn't need another charger, as that's part of the vehicle. Just plug the cable into the outbuilding. I would us the cheap nighttime charging and plug into the outbuilding any other time.

What's the voltage / wattage to charge? I'm thinking timer. I have an outlet that my Karen neighbor pays for and she doesn't know it. From a Christmas decoration border war before both of our times here.

That second plan looks like a trap.

The first looks mostly ok, especially if you can do most of your charging in the cheap window, and have a "smuggers socket" for emergencies. Most importantly, it won't explode your bill with one afternoon's carelessness.

Because 6.46 cents per kWh is an absurdly fantastic price. Most of the planet is jealous of rates like that!

Why do you expect to need a top off in the evening between 5:30 and 10? If you drove 200 miles before 5:30, the last thing I'd want to do that day is another road trip in the evening.

Just set your charger's timer (or the Slate's timer, assuming it has such a setting) to wait to charge until 10pm and get back to 100% on L2 by 8am.
