I absolutely hope younger people take this up and get past the fear of stuff like crank windows. I've broached the subject with the retirement crowd and they are pretty sour on it. Not enough creature comforts for most. I may start a thread on the subject of discussing Slate with our acquaintances later.

Am I the only one getting annoyed that someone found the Slate last week and think they have the most important observation / question in the world but too lazy to do a search to reveal dozens of related posts? Just getting older? 😄😄😄

This is such a huge pet-peeve of mine.

It's even more egregious in the Maverick forums. Slate owners don't have a manual to read yet, but Mav owners absolutely do and yet, countless people ignore the manual and ignore the search feature and simply ask a question that has been asked and answered dozens of times.

Agreed. In fact, I think folks of ALL ages are less inclined to actually use windows then in the past. I personally think most folks drive around cooled and heated the vast majority of the time.

That’s funny. Yesterday was our usual Monday afternoon Happy Hour gathering, yup, all retired and a non resident visitor (daughter has a Tesla) brought up my Slate. Turned into a major discussion with me showing the website etc. All positive to include the guy that just got Silverado EV Trailboss in Apr.

No offense to you personally (I understand you're just talking about other people) but as an aside, I'm so tired of hearing the term "creature comforts" used to disparage Slate.

Cushioned seats, seat adjusters, sun visors, and HVAC are creature comforts: things that appeal to the human body and our senses. They comfort our bodies (our creatures).

Power windows, mirrors on the sun visors, body paint, large screens, touch screens, voice commands, phone chargers, and built-in internet connectivity are not creature comforts. None of those things comfort my creature. There’s nothing wrong with someone wanting those things, but they don’t have universal appeal to the human creature.

The narrative that the Slate lacks "creature comforts" bothers me because the Slate has creature comforts. If you lump all these extra features like power windows in the category of "creature comforts" it implies that they're universally desired, and the truck is objectively less comfortable without them. No, those are things that some people want and other people don't.

(btw, i'm in gen z and the crank windows were the main appeal of this truck for me. i don't think we're scared of crank windows. this is the generation that brought back vinyl records and is organizing anti-ai protests at schools. for better or worse, we are the most tech-skeptical generation alive.)

Love it Adele, and agree with you regarding definition, but that said, it would be very entertaining to a good number of us to see a handful of Gen Z actually living as we did 60 years ago, no internet, no cell phones, no instant most anything, no fast food. Not finding fault or anything, but vinyl records and ai don’t begin to define the difference. And I always read your posts. Appreciate your Slate.

Conveniently, with the Slate Truck's official model being "FN", it can mean "Read The FN Manual" literally and unironically. I suppose that's along the same lines as people noticing that the drug "heroin" looks like the word "heroine", an amazing coincidence indeed... but actually because it was intentionally named that.

Regardless, I, for one, am looking forward with bated breath for the opportunity to be able to download a PDF and RTFM. I love a good manual and have a long tradition of reading them cover-to-cover (often multiple times) before the item is ever in my hands. My one hope is that someone associated with the creation of the Slate owner's manual has been exposed to at least one Mackie mixer manual (i.e. the manual for one of Mackie's multichannel live audio mixer boards). Those manuals are not just thorough but also chock-full of so many delightful jokes, easter eggs, and even the occasional running gag that I've read Mackie manuals for things I'm never planning to buy, just for entertainment.

If you don't care about entertaining manuals, this concludes my post. On the other hand, if you're intrigued and want a few tidbits to entice you to actually go and download, say, the Mackie ProFXv3 manual for entertainment purposes only, well, allow me...

Page 10 of the ProFXv3 manual, in the XLR and 1/4" Combo Inputs section, a "Very Important"-marked note:​

NEVER connect the output of an amplifier directly to a ProFXv3's input jack. This could damage the input circuitry and we wouldn't want that now, would we?​

And then under the Mic Ins section on the same page, the same thing, repeated. And under the next section, Line Ins, the same thing, repeated again. And then under the next section Stereo Line Inputs, the same thing, repeated yet again. And then under 1/8" Stereo Input...​
