I also think people are expecting a lower reservation-to-purchase conversion rate, and I agree that will probably happen. But that doesn’t necessarily mean those people don’t want a Slate truck anymore.
I completely agree. I think a lot of people are going to have to make the conversion choice with a lot of unanswered questions (even with the 30-day deposit window) and that's a big ask. Even early deliveries are likely far enough out that it's not crazy to say "I've waited this long, what's another 6 - 12 months if it gives me a chance to have all my questions answered before making a commitment."

It seems like we have a little bit of everything in this community. We have cautious laggards like me. And we have enthusiastic adventurors (and I'm glad you guys and gals are out there). We have "just the basic Slate for me", and we have "I'm gonna drop the cost of the truck again on mods", and everything in between.

Gonna be a fun 2027 to watch it all unfold.

I'm an enthusiastic adventurer, but a $30k vehicle is still at the edge of affordability for me, haha. The details they release would have to be very exciting for me to throw another $250 into the abyss of an EV startup, at least without seeing/driving one.

The EV industry is 8-10yrs on the battery with most being 10yrs. I would expect a 3/36000 like most other new vehicles.

Got an email with blank subject and a link from slate with FAQ on the upcoming preorder window
https://www.slate.auto/en/how-to-preorder
This seems to be the first I'm hearing about preordering officially opening.

Text from the page is as follows

1. LOG INTO YOUR SLATE ACCOUNT.
Beginning June 24
You’ll see your assigned delivery window and a link to preorder. If you have an existing reservation, we’ll email you a reminder, too.
Need a reservation? Get one here.

2. LOCK IN YOUR DELIVERY WINDOW.
Within 30 days
A $300 non-refundable deposit (minus your $50 reservation fee, if you have a reservation) locks in your delivery timing.
  • You’ll have 30 days to place your deposit.
  • After 30 days, you can still preorder, but your delivery window will shift to later time slot.
  • The preorder deposit will be applied toward the final purchase price.

LATER: PERSONALIZE AND BUY.
Beginning Fall 2026
As your delivery window approaches, we’ll let you know when it’s time to:
  • Pick wraps and accessories.
  • Select financing and finalize a purchase agreement.
  • Choose how to take delivery.
Great first post! And almost a year after joining - as if you were waiting for this moment... :involve:

Interesting. I'll be a bit disappointed if my day one reservation was a waste, because I'm not putting down $300 before I see and drive one. Slate has 8 weeks left to produce production intent trucks and get them in front of people so they can make final decisions.
You can use mine for a test drive. :like:

Waaaahoooo!

PLEASE stop being so pessimistic - we talked about this. :CWL:
I assume they'll be closer to 35-40% conversion rate, to be honest. I have nothing but feels to back that up. Don't quote me.
Don't tell me what to do. If I want to quote you, you can't do anything about it. You're not the boss of me. :giggle:

So I now appear have 4 designs in my garage, 2 not of my doing (2 are "blanks" (that I cannot seem to remove), 2 are designs I've made previously). I tried editing one of the blanks and now I can't save it.

So you may find the builder is whacked right now.....

That or Slate wants to hook you up with extra trucks!

Federal law requires the 8 years, 100k miles on the battery and HV system. California now requires 10 years 150k miles. I have noticed that Chevrolet brands now have an add on charge on the sticker price to cover that difference in California, I would hope that most manufacturers would just move up to the CA standard, it's probably a low percentage that fail in those last 2 years.

I’m on the fence about paying the extra 250 (I’m a day one reservation holder).
I sure would like to see a vehicle in person before I fully commit. I’m truly excited to configure a 4 seat SUV and then pop the back top off. The thought of 2 seats in the back, open to the wind & stars really has my imagination going. This would be a second vehicle for me and not a daily.

So they want us to fork over $250. It’s nonrefundable before we even actually know how much the thing cost, that’s bullshit.

Pricing will be announced the same day as preorders start. Then you'll have a full 30 days to think about it if you want to keep your delivery window.

I agree. $250 non refundable it total nonsense without knowing the price.
