I was pretty excited about this email. I have been on the EV train the last two years and not going back, at least for my daily commuter vehicle.
Will be forking over the extra $250, assuming the larger battery is a reasonable price.

I was able to check out a truck at an event last year and it seems like the truck we have been missing for the last 20 years.

What excites me so much about the slate is the customization (can't wait to print some parts) and that the tech is so basic. I love my current truck but it needs about 50% less of the tech and no subscriptions.

“Beyond the basic truck, which is being offered as a no-frills model with 150-mile and 240-mile battery pack options, wraps and accessories will be available to add to the preorder starting sometime this fall.”-American Cars & Racing

As your delivery window approaches, we’ll let you know when it’s time to:
  • Pick wraps and accessories.
  • Select financing and finalize a purchase agreement.
  • Choose how to take delivery.

The only thing the $300 gets you is a solid delivery window. Choosing accessories come later although they said that most of them will have prices attached to the Maker...

I wanted to compare Ts and Cs of Slate vs. Tesla from a DTC perspective. I thought many of you would find this interesting.

SLATE:
The $300 non-refundable preorder deposit will be applied this toward the final purchase price.

TESLA:
The $250 non-refundable order fee is not applied to the purchase price. It’s a separate fee you pay when you order, and it’s kept by Tesla even if you complete the purchase.

It’s Slate … “FTW” 🙂

Federal law requires the 8 years, 100k miles on the battery and HV system. California now requires 10 years 150k miles. I have noticed that Chevrolet brands now have an add on charge on the sticker price to cover that difference in California, I would hope that most manufacturers would just move up to the CA standard, it's probably a low percentage that fail in those last 2 years.
I'll have to recheck, but I think Cali requires a 200-mile minimum EPA range to qualify for credits against zero emissions penalties. I looked into it a few months ago, but memory is fading.

Yeah, I've seen the same, but that's credits for the manufacturer anyway, doesn't affect us directly. Don't have the time to look into it tonight, but a thought is, with other companies dropping EV plans, those credits could be going back up in value, might be enough for Slate to discount the extended range battery.

Neat stuff. I can fork over the extra 250/300, but I would really like to drive one first! They had better hurry up with some of these early builds.

Interesting about the 200 mile range requirement for Cali incentives. What if the battery announcement in June is not LFP but that the standard range is going to be 200 miles? Certainly that would make the standard range version a lot more attractive.

My current daily driver was ordered during the supply chain issues post-covid. I never saw or drove one before I bought it because none existed on the lot. The first time I drove it was when we went to pick it up. It has things that annoy me but there really wasn't any other option. All the other manufacturers have cancelled their minivan based cargo vans. I'm aiming for a cargo Slate.

I'm not afraid to put the money down, I afraid of what my wife will say to my wanting a third vehicle for a household of two drivers.

:rolleyes: <= her likely reaction

What kind of warranty will they have, including the battery?
Federal govenment requires at an 8 year 100,000 mile warrenty on EV high voltage batteries. CARB states (17 in total I think) require 10 year 150,000 mile battery warrenty. I am sure the specifics will be revealed on the 24th.
