Thank you, but I guess I should try to be clearer. How does cost of the eRev generated compare? How many miles per gallon of gas generated? Guess that depends on miles/kw, so how many kw/gallon erev? Hope that makes sense.

Scout's EREV will come with a 2L VW gas engine to recharge the HV battery.

No specs on the VW engine details nor tank size in the Scout yet.....

The issue with Scout's EREV is that the added ICE power plant will decrease the EV efficiency due to added weight of the engine and different battery chemistry (LFP).

EREV will have about 150 mile EV only range with about 350 miles added on with the ICE recharger on a full tank giving you 500 miles of distance.

For those that need that range, towing, or cold weather use, it makes sense.

The EV only version will get around 350 miles of range which is more than enough for most folks.

With my current driving, my EV gets around 260 mile range and I am more than satisfied.

As I age, I need to stop much more frequently, so every 100 miles, I have to stop for breaks, walks, bathroom, medications, etc...

When I am on a road trip, I stop at Tesla Superchargers many times to get a quick 20-30 minute rest stop break and top off the battery.

Just out of curiosity, what would one of these add to the range if you just carried one in the frunk in case of emergencies? Just a mile or two?

😅

Not much - it's a small battery and you will be lucky to get 1.2kW charging from a L1 cord for an hour.
Should add around 3 - 4 miles of range on a single charge.

Better to just call Auto Club roadside assistance with EV charger they have on board to get L2 charge.

I have for the home a 240V/120V 24kW EcoFlow battery system w/ solar recharge ability and during a grid down event, it can recharge my EV with L2 for about 5 hours and get a decent charge.

EVs typically get somewhere in the realm of 3 miles / kWh. That's a 1 kWh unit, so you'd get about 3 miles of additional range from it, and it would take about 40 minutes for you to get those 3 miles.

TLDR; It's not worth it. Just plan ahead a little and don't run out, same as gas.

Exactly!

Common for EV newbies to worry about range - called range anxiety.

After 7 years of EV driving, I just refer to the % battery remaining just like fuel tank gauge.

I love being able to continue using the EV even if there was a grid down event where all gas stations would cease to pump fuel....

I actually LOVE Scouts EREV model. The 150mi range scared me at first, but as people here have pointed out, 150 is plenty for most daily use.

Run the car off just the battery daily, for work and local commuting, and don't have to think about it for long trips. If I wanna drive across the Great Basin, no problem, just stop and fill up in a few hours. Need a longer pit stop where I can recharge (myself and my car)? Get loaded up with 500mi of range!

Now someone smarter than me... find a way to package that up in a car for $30k!

Agreed about EREVs. If Mazda actually makes the iconic (rx-9?) with a (spinning dorito) range extender I’d be first in line with my checkbook yelling “ shut up and take my money”, it wouldn’t be 30 grand … maybe 60k to start? But damn it’s gorgeous !

I thought they quit making the “spinning Dorito” 😆 because of its poor gas mileage?

They’re working on a range extender version. It can be optimized for running at the most efficient rpm, and with computer control they have a handle on oil and fuel consumption as well as pollution. The small size and weight make it ideal for a high rpm single speed engine to drive a small onboard generator. A small team at Mazda has continued working on them.
