not really, unless the Federal EV tax credit expires for the first 200,000 new vehicles produced by that manufacturer at the end of 2026 like everyone fears it will, then I want to get mine by end of year 2026 or if able to sign a purchase agreement so the government can send Slate my $7,500 credit for my purchase

I've never been so invested in a purchase before, it seems strange that we want to get rid of a program where the money is not given out unless you buy a certain product, but we give out money to the big automakers all the time even if they do not sell a vehicle

and in this case it would be great for startups that produce an affordable vehicle if the criteria is the EV vehicle has to be under $55k price which would make the amount of money given out even smaller
Thanks! I can certainly understand the concern with respect to the potential loss of the tax credit. Totally makes sense from that perspective. I wasn't considering it from that angle.

It seems to me that Slate
will use independent car transporters.
Give the customer the option of
door-to-door (more expensive)
or to a terminal.

But that brings up the question of
service and repairs.
Will there be a network of providers?

they stated that there will be a network of over 2,500 service providers so my guess is it’s a national chain of some sorts

I’ve been sitting out the new car market for a long time now because of all the overpriced unreliable vehicles the legacy makers are putting out. Have not been able to get into an EV due to them being luxury vehicles and still too much tech.

Basically “what she said” to Chris’s speech at the launch.

I’m hoping my 200,000 mile and 350,000 mile vehicles makes it long enough for me to wait two years to get mine.
Yep, Jetta just crossed 180k miles and gets 350 miles/week so fingers crossed she makes it to delivery. :)

It's gonna have to be an already established service provider of some sort.

Since Bezos is involved I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being Amazon distribution centers which could have a few trained people on hand to support Slate. Maintenance shouldn't be too difficult on this thing and if it needs something major, Amazon could truck it back to a few regional repair facilities and when it's fixed you can just pick it back up at the same Amazon facility you dropped it off at.

The logistics are already there so to me it makes perfect sense

Walmart's own auto center page claims "over 2,500 Auto Centers nationwide" which aligns perfectly with what Slate said of their national partner. So that's my bet on who it's going to be.

(The specific number doesn't appear on the page itself, but it's included in the meta description in the HTML head, and shows up on search summaries)
