I currently drive a year old Maverick. Ratchet straps go in the bedside cubbies. Plenty of room under the rear seat for tools, jump pack, emergency cold weather gear, various other stuff. It has a huge center console, I put a three level bin unit in that. Where will all my stuff go in a Slate? If only it came with a hinged lid in the front of the bed, using the backseat footwell area as a storage bin. I have to imagine there is a good reason why that can't be done.

But, I've always liked the form factor of a short bed regular cab truck and I find myself intrigued by having an electric version. 90% of the time I leave my driveway I don't drive more than 25 miles so range wouldn't be an issue. I'm the perfect guy to use level 1 charging too. 90% short trips, but maybe half my total miles on the Maverick are from the other 10%. But then again we've got her Ford Edge for road trips.

But where do I put my stuff?

There's the frunk, front truck under the hood. I think we determined that there's not much space where the backseat footwell would be in the bed, so not room for a gear tunnel like the Rivian or Telo have, that's basically the space between the front seat and the rear cab wall.

In addition to the frunk, there is a bit of space for small stuff storage behind the seats.

I dont know how much gear, but in the the frunk.

But if you have a 1 year old maverick, it doesnt make sense to get a slate. You would be losing a lot of money.

The drunk would be a weather-tight location.

OP, I hear your question. I drove small single cab trucks for 30+ years. Boy were those space-limited, but I'm a small-vehicle kind of guy. What I really needed all those years was the extended cab variant, where there was just 12" to 18" behind the front seats. And I really hope Slate offers a kit for that (not the SUV kit).

I hate four door trucks. Hate them. So of course I own one (Maverick). Had huge buyers remorse leaving my old single cab Ranger behind at the dealership. But I gotta admit, it's morphed into a love-hate kind of thing over three years. I hate the bloated-fat-pig aspect of the Maverick. But boy do I love keeping two laundry hampers in the back seat and throwing stuff into them at will.

Actually, it's not that I hate four door trucks. I love the Telo. I hate trucks bigger than 190" or so.

Makes sense to me. I have a 2 year old Maverick Hybrid and I will gladly lose a good bit of money to finally get a fully electric truck with no dealer overcharge crap, 12v battery failure crap, oil change crap, subscription crap, data gathering crap, ford recall crap, and on and on.

Give me a simple low part count drivetrain, 12.43 cents per KWh charging, leaving the garage with a full "tank" every day, right to repair, customize to my exact wants, and on and on.

But to be truthful, I'm actually just spending my kid's inheritance at this point, so sux for them. :)

The large frunk is what I'm relying on here. I'd be going from an extended cab Tacoma where I use that extra space for storage (had someone sit in the jump seat maybe twice in 10 years). I was worried at first, but the large frunk and bit of space behind the seats (and generous dash storage) mitigate my concerns.

Good video here showing the frunk size - last few seconds is where they pan over it.
