What Would You Do if The Slate Truck Does Not Manifest?

The Slate truck is the first new car that I've been truly enthusiastic about in a long time. Lets face it, new cars that are ICE or even hybrid just don't excite as they don't push technology further and they require the same old engine upkeep and oily mess we DIYers love to bathe in.

However, if Slate fails to deliver the car, what would you do? If Slate doesn't meet the target price range +/- 3000 USD, what would you do?

I'm sure everyone here has a condition tree like this. Mine stops hard at the price if Slate actually brings the truck to market. If the end result is not reasonably priced, I'll most likely continue driving my E53 X5 as I plan to restore the front and rear end by the end of this year giving another decade of suspension life.

I put a lot of abuse on my CRV, making it do truck stuff it wasn’t designed for. I want the Slate to take the brunt of that abuse, at which point i can get rid of the crv and get a nicer small car for road trips/comfort. Without the Slate, probably just keep running the CRV until it's dust.

As many of us have indicated, the Slate will be a secondary, fun mode of transport for all the local trips which really tack on the miles to our main vehicle(s). If Slate never materializes, I will just keep running my existing car till the wheels fall off.

I will likely just use our Odyssey van until it drops dead. But would like to use a Slate as a local workhorse vehicle that I don't have to take seats in/out like the van. As SichuanHot noted, I too am fixed on the price staying near where their original guestimates are. Which seems based on the tax credit remaining which is in danger of being wiped out by Rethuglicans. The fossil fuel industry is and will continue to do anything to stop EV's and alternative energy initiatives. So maybe it will be 4-5 years before Slate can get real traction IF voters wise up by then.

Either Scout or Ioniq 5. I know, I know, very different vehicles with different missions. I want to go EV and I need a vehicle with a large enough size to be a rolling billboard for my business. If Scout, it will eventually replace my FJ for off road stuff. If Ioniq 5, I'll keep my FJ. But...

...I'm confident Slate will pull it off and that will be my next vehicle in Cargo configuration.

I bought a 2022 Frontier S King Cab with a rebuilt title for $20k with 3k miles. It is a fantastic truck that will last a very long time. If anyone is looking for a capable base truck, I highly recommend it- about as simple as a vehicle comes these days. That said, it has collision avoidance, radar cruise, Apple CarPlay, push start, keyless entry, 300hp and tows a bit over 7000lbs. Also have a Scout preorder to replace our Expedition, but I think that vehicle may come to market far more compromised than the Slate. I think the Slate will do amazing with young people, commuters and businesses.

Unfortunately, I think the Scout decently equipped is going to be $75K.

And it’s a shame, because scout is the coolest car coming in the next few years -(in my opinion) - EV or ICE.

Hopefully Slate applies some downward pressure to the market corrects that a bit :)

When the Slate was announced... I felt... I don't know...

Seen.
Saved.

I ran toward it!
Oh, I ran!

If Slate turns out to be just a mirage, breaking up, disappating, an ethereal mist...

I guess... I guess I shall just...

Perish in the desert.
Hungry. Thirsty.
Alone.

...

...

And then I'll repair and "personalize" my Jeep.
Again. For, like, the MILLIONTH time.

Not buy one.

I don't need this thing as my car and truck are plenty. I just wanted this thing. No harm, no foul.

Change CRV to Honda Fit and you've pretty much nailed what I'm doing. I really hope that Prelude ends up coming out. If the Slate didn't happen I'd go to the Prelude as the runabout. Either that or make the Element the full time daily / workhorse / beater.
