I don’t understand why people who have sat in them say it is so much plastic. Have they sat in any car made since, like 1980. Almost exclusively, all interior car finishes have been plastic for a very long time.

Is it the type of plastic? Have they been fooled into thinking that leather texture vinyl in their Chevrolet was actually leather. Carpet = plastic. Fabric seats = plastic. I am just a little confused. Can someone explain it to me.

I think there's a quality and texture thing that comes with it. I've been in cars that feel 'plastickey.' Usually the plastic is thin and has some flex to it, a cheap hollow feeling. I've been in some all plastic interiors on older cars that are rock solid, just feels durable and doesn't have that same 'cheap' feel. It's hard to explain.

I have been in some pre '08 market crash domestic cars that were just egregiously 'cheap' feeling. Just paper thin cheap feeling plastics everywhere. I have a Step 2 plastic mailbox and it feels almost identical to the touch to some of the rentals I had back then.

My Country Squire, for all that I love it, also has some of this problem. Miles of brown plastic with a woodgrain print on it that is low enough quality you can see the texture overlap / printer's lack of detail in spots. And it all flexes and creaks if you touch it. My Fit, on the other hand, has a plastic textured dashboard so thick I couldn't replace the bottom HVAC bulb because the plastic dashboard would not flex an inch no matter how hard I pulled on it to get to the back of the switch assembly. Just feels rock solid.

Has anyone sat in one of the demo trucks closer to the production specs? I don't recall Jay Leno mentioning a plasticy feel and he got to drive one.

Also, has anyone asked Slate about this?

Just curious. As long as the plastic isn't sticky, and the truck is safe I'm good and I suppose many others are too.

Just wait until they see the exterior. :giggle:

When I sat in a Slate, the plastics didn't look or feel luxurious, but also didn't look or feel offensively cheap either. I had no complaints..

If you opt for some of the interior options on the Slate maker, such as the brown accents on the door shoulders and dash panel, that should give it a more upscale feel. They are now even offering a genuine? wood strip on the lower dash along with magma and gun metal accents. If you’re used to a luxury car, the contrast might not seem as bad. Of course, all the prototypes used the standard plastics, so we need to wait for a an upgraded production unit on display to decide if the upgraded interior is a worthy option.

"It's so plastic!"

As I like to say, that's the kind of car I like to pay for!

I didn’t sit in it at Navy Pier, but took some pics. It looks very nice & in production should be better.

They are idiots. Plus its pre-production so not coming of real molds just sample molds or 3d printed. Textures and feel and I’m sure materials will change for the better.
