What would you tow?!

Pick-up beds are great for hauling motorcycles. Get a good ramp and I like to use a step stool so I don’t have to go from the ground to the tailgate. The Slate will shine in this area because the tailgate won’t be 4 feet off the ground like many other trucks.

That's workable for a dirt bike, but pushing my 500-pound bike that's 7' 3" long up a ramp (which I'd need to buy and then store) and into the 5-foot bed of the Slate wouldn't be a trivial task, even considering the low entry height.

OTOH trailer rental is $15 and it's drop-dead easy to put the bike on the trailer and take it off, and it can be done solo. Get a little running start and up she goes. The ramp is wide enough for you to step up the ramp next to the bike..

By the way, I was blown away by the engineering of the U-Haul motorcycle trailer. U-Haul isn't my favorite company, but whomever designed that trailer did a bang-up job. It's built like a tank and easy to use.

I have a vehicle that can pull 9,000 pounds, so there's that. I was just wondering if pulling the motorcycle on a trailer would be something the Slate could accomplish.

Upon reflection my previous post came off more pessimistic that I intended. Dirt bikes weigh less than half what my bike weighs and they're about a foot shorter. One of those would be easy to put in the bed of a Slate.

Also, that beefy rental trailer is way heavier than a typical motorcycle trailer that has rails. I think a typical 3-rail motorcycle trailer weighs about 400 lbs or thereabouts.

So @GaRailroader is spot on. The Slate would haul dirt bikes like a boss, either in the bed or towed on a trailer.

Probably not a foot shorter. With my 6 foot bed Ranger I left the tailgate down when hauling dirtbikes. On my 6 foot 9 inch bed F-150 I could get the tailgate shut if I turned the front wheel and put it in the corner of the bed. With the 5 foot bed the rear tire is gonna be on the tailgate. Probably with the front tire in the corner of the bed rather than compressing the fork springs against the center of the front bulkhead. Personally, if I had 7 foot 3 inch 500 pound bike, I’d load it in the bed diagonally with front tire in 1 corner and rear tire sitting on tailgate on diagonally opposite corner.

The next time someone sees a Slate in the wild we need to get a measurement from ground to tailgate surface when tailgate is down. I think the lower bed height is going to make it a lot more attractive to use than the typical monster trucks that are out there today.

I used to have something similar that was a rail that mounted to the hitch instead of the more elegant moto jack rack. I used it to haul a trials bike or enduro bike with a Jeep Grand Cherokee.(1 at a time)

I would not want to put a 500 pound bike this far behind the rear axle on this little truck. Loading like that is taking weight off the front end. It will look like the front end has the lift kit and the rear will be squatted. A lot of people will be flashing their brights at you at night thinking you have your high beams on.

It has its own EV drivetrain built in, so it drastically reduces the towing load.
