...SilverRock looks to use Firestone, PepBoys, Mikeke, etc., etc. for their network. This could instantly make Slate the vehicle that can have warranty work done at more locations than any other vehicle.

I'd put money on this outcome over anything to do with Walmart, and honestly it would be so much better.
I agree that an auto-focused service center would probably provide better service. My Walmart prediction is based on the fact that both Slate and Walmart use the *exact* same language.
  • From the Slate FAQ, "Through an upcoming national partnership, we will be offering authorized Slate service at more than 2500 locations throughout the US".
  • Walmart's auto center website advertises "over 2,500 Auto Centers nationwide."
That's too much of a coincidence for me.

Want to make an official friendly wager? I'll buy you a Slate t-shirt if I'm wrong, you buy me one if I'm right? :)

I had not seen the 2,500 locations quote yet, but I see it on their FAQ page now. The scenario of utilizing the SilverRock network would give access to 10,000+ locations.

Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO) (Firestone) has around 2,200 locations so a direct partnership there could make sense if they are only going to target 2500 locations.

I still don’t see where Walmart is capable of doing warranty work on a vehicle, let alone an EV, they are only really set up to do tires and oil changes in a quick service method.

Either way, I’m down for the shirt wager!

Would prefer news on the Factory build out. Amazon deliveries, Firestone for service.

CarVanna for delivery makes sense.

However, Walmart for service does not. These are electric vehicles. They are going to need a EV trained group of technicians.

I like the Monroe, Midas, Meinicke brake and muffler shops. They are going to need work to replace muffler and brakes. Doing upfit work would be a good fit for them.

I cant remember where I saw it, but I remember seeing that someone connected with Carvana was an investor. If im not mistaken they have nationwide locations and shops for their used cars and would make for a decent repair shop and also an avenue to upfit and delivery new trucks to customers.

This combined with Walmart/other automotive repairfacilities would make for a great solution for most people.

Not quite what I would say is a great coverage map, but it covers most of the populated areas.

If Carvana is selected as the delivery center, how cool would it be to see your Slate coming down the vending machine!

It would be recorded by every new owner, and I can envision a website setup where you can upload your video on delivery day. It can also be hosted on this forum. I think it can go viral seeing the different builds, as many folks will have it customized and wrapped before taking delivery.

Yet another opportunity for Slate to build a large audience and develop customer loyalty.
