Four doors? No thanks, they should've made it smaller! Pickup trucks have two doors.

And I'll believe the $30k price when I see it, they said the Lightning would be under $40k. Remember that? The Internet remembers:

https://electrek.co/2021/05/19/ford...40k-w-300-mile-range-and-can-power-your-home/

They missed that target by $10k, and then they discontinued the standard range and made the Pro trim exclusive to fleet sales so the cheapest one that normal people could buy was at least $64k plus dealership mark-ups that often pushed the price over $80k. Double the target! Insane!

Focus seems to be on small size, smaller than a Maverick, but didn't Ford say it would be bigger than that?
Ford said it was a mid size pickup but just said that it would only be slightly larger than the Maverick but with interior space comparable to the RAV4

Yes ford said bigger than the maverick, with more interior space. The article claims it's smaller than a maverick multiple times. In the video he thinks it's the size of an old ranger, but I think that is a trick of perspective, It's definitely smaller than the F150, but we all knew that, the ranger is a lot closer to the point of view and so the ranger looks bigger.

Dang it. That's a nice looking truck. I'm gonna have to do some cross shopping, I think.

A few issues:
Bed size. Ford looks pretty small - guessing 4.5 foot. Wish it was 5.5 at least.

Haha--okay, that might be my only issue.

I like that Ford is using LFP for their batteries. If that gets 300 miles for $30k - hoo boy, that's gonna be tough for Slate to compete with unless they come in significantly cheaper.

Hoping for good news in a couple of weeks!

if they have a folding midgate like the telo to extend the bed into the cab, and it isnt bigger than the maverick, I would be onboard.

The shape definitely looks good even though the proportions are a bit weird with the 4 doors.

I still want the 25K blank slate though.

I've recently been looking into the new Rivian R2 and saw that the Rivian engineers overcame an aerodynamics vs style dilemma with this roofline design.

I'm getting hints that Ford may be doing the same thing. Notice how small the rear window is and how much lower the top of the rear window is compared to the rear side window. Could the black cover be hiding a Rivian style rear roofline? 🤔

The proportions strike me more like a Smyth Charger Ute, which if they lean into that could be good, the roofline is just way low, which I get for aero is good, just like Farley said not really truck-like.

Didn't ford claim it wasn't going to look like a typical truck? It looks like the exact same shape as a maverick, unless that camo is doing A LOT of work.

When thinking about Ford's motivations, remember they already have Maverick, Ranger, F150. And they plan on building a dozen or more "tophats" on that new BEV platform. And Ford cancelled the Escape this year. So they can take market segment risks with something that doesn't quite look like a truck - those buyers just go to the above models. If this thing fails, Ford doesn't fail. They just go on to the next planned tophat in the same factory and see if it gets any traction. In fact, Ford has stated they're happy with very low volumes on any given tophat on that platform - as long as they add up to good plant utilization. They all roll down the same line.

It's a very different place from Slate. Slate has to work. The Slate truck cannot fail. If Slate the truck fails, Slate the company falls with it.

Honest disclosure... I'm a Slate fan, and I hope it succeeds. But I'm a Ford BEV fan too. I'm probably leaning to the Ford, as long as it's no bigger than my Maverick (smaller would be a huge plus).

Even the best Ford is still a Ford. They will most likely need a major repair shortly before the final payment. I wouldn’t buy one at half the price.
