But they are cars, not a truck. I looked there and the Slate is, even adding accessories, about half of what a used Rivian goes for with 40 to 60k miles on it.
Oof... that is exactly the reason I was driven to discover Slate last year; I was researching EV trucks and was in sticker shock. Thank you Slate! :)

I'll add that I've never even considered owning a truck, at all. It wasn't until Slate with the combo of size, price and drivetrain did the lightbulb go off for me that I would greatly benefit... from a truck. Not an SUV, not (yet another ICE), not another massive depreciating burden, but a small, low cost, EV truck.

Slate literally "inducing demand" from someone like me, that didn't previously exist.

This is my exact story too!

What's giving me second thoughts is the idea that I don't actually want to pay $25k for a car, and maybe if I wait a couple years there will be used ones available for less. Well... I have a few more weeks to keep thinking about it.
It’s like that for any car… I’m 72, I may not make it long enough for any to hit the used market near me. For me it’s Now or never.
You never know when your last day will be.
In two years you could put 40,000 miles or more on it with a big smile on your face.

The main reason I was buying this was to support the concept and back the company, I wasn't looking to reduce my mileage on the Tundra. I just justified the purchase because I can use this as a daily driver. This would be a 5th vehicle for me and I have no problem parking toys in the garage, but like Levelheaded said, I have 6 months to think about it.
Im sure Slate is grateful for your donations thus far.

One thing I caught in a recent video since 6/24 was the Slate wrap requires a special adhesive due to the Slate's plastic body panels. I think Eric Kepler said it in the latest Munroe video. I doubt it is a proprietary adhesive, but it probably increases the cost at a wrap shop if they have to deal with a wrap with a non-standard adhesive.
Yes, and I verified your statement with a local professional body shop who specializes in wraps.

I fully expect that lots of people will put down the $300 but then when December comes along, they will have second thoughts. Maybe as many as a third of them.

I'm sure you won't be the only one. There's a couple of orders of magnitude difference between $300 and $30k.

I'm going to buy, but I have to admit that when I'm in the maker, I'm really struggling to keep the OTD price under $30k. I keep thinking, but I really want this or that feature.
Slate can make the process easier and more convincing if the added accessories ship at no additional cost if ordered at the same time when you order your truck.

If we hold off and take delivery of the blank Slate aka FN and later purchase the SUV kit, I’m going to bet the delivery charge on a 300# accessory ships as freight. It ain’t exactly cheap! Also speculating that the kit will ship in 3 or 4 separate boxes so that they are manageable at <100 # each.

Same here.
Innovative concept for sure and coming to fruition which is great for the industry.

I am also having second thoughts as I have not test drove it and wondering how regen is going to be.

If the test drive fails, then Slate keeps my $300.

At least I will feel better about shopping for a different EV.....

Not sure why the hate? I own a '23 Hybrid Maverick Lariat and it's a great vehicle and much loved by owners.
Nice vehicle but 4.5’ truck bed is a non starter for me- electric bikes, foil boards, motorcycles-the ones I own need a minimum 5’ bed. Might as well buy a Santa Cruz

Be careful making that decision from just a test drive. When I got my first EV, regen completely freaked me out. If I'd only had that available on the test drive, I might have waved off. But within a week of owning and using the car I was running with regen on the highest level.

If you have a local car rental agency that has any EV inventory, it might be worth the investment to rent one for a weekend. Learn how to enable/adjust the regen and spend some hours getting used to it. There's a good chance that once the initial "Woah! This is not right!" feeling wears off, you'll actually love it.

I'm confused... The specs say "Bed length: 5ft."

Threads like this just reenforce the old saying “You can’t please Everyone”
No matter what product is sold you always have those wanting it to be different or more.
My advice is, you either accept the product as it is, wait for improvements later on, or start looking for something that fits your wants and needs better.
You have choices…
