Actually, Tesla does tout the American-made status of their vehicles (including the Cybertruck). And it's a fair claim -- all Teslas sold in the US are assembled in either California or Texas, and they contain a very high percentage of American-made parts.

However, Tesla doesn't believe in traditional advertising -- so they don't do any touting on TV, radio, or most Internet sites. For some unknown reason, however, Tesla does believe in advertising on X (Twitter). So that's where you have to look. If you aren't following Tesla on X, you'll miss the touting.

I'm saying I've never seen anything about CT specifically. I also follow the industry very closely, I'm aware of how Tesla operates. I used to be a HUGE fanboy, now I'm a mid-range fanboy, lol. Still love my Model Y more than my Silverado EV though.

LOL, nope, The only electric line in our neighborhood runs cross country to the cell tower and FAA station. A handful of houses are close enough to tap in. The rest of us are ag acreage, mostly 20 acre former sugar plantation land. When we bought the options were to extend the line from neighbor, about $20k per pole, min 2 poles of go solar. Chose solar instead of guaranteed expensive monthly bill. Great choice. n

How is being grid-tied solar "make believe"?

If you're off grid solar you're just using what you need and wasting the rest, unless you have a MASSIVE battery bank. If you're grid-tied solar you're selling back which means your extra energy generated is being used by others before energy generated by fossil fuels. One could argue that a person is MORE "green" by being grid-tied because of this. 🤷‍♂️

There's really no need to start an "I'm more green than you" argument here. We're all doing our part to make the world a healthier place and our air easier to breathe by purchasing EVs, whether one cares about their carbon footprint or not.

Never said, nor indicated More green than you. Never would. Not into greenness personally, off grid by necessity, choice of EV Slate because I like the truck and the bonus of saving money.

there is a contingent of grid tied folks claiming to be off grid based on fact they have PV without regard that the setup is very different. Much of newer equipment is getting more hybrid, but still they are only a switch away from power, whereas off grid requires another user system such as a generator. Different environment often misunderstood by those that do like the “more green than you” appearance

not all grid tied folks sell or feed the grid, pretty much controlled by their local utility.

grid tied folks without backup batteries usually don’t have power when the utility goes out.

i am very much looking forward to using my excess production. now it would be entirely reasonable to ask why I have so much. Not always the case, but their are days when actual production has been about 1/6 my use. 2 days back to back I it’s generator time. Propane is over $5/gal, so prefer to limit. Definitely won’t be charging Slate those days. i do have a very robust system, 18kw PV, 57kw LiFePo batteries.

I'm pretty red as well with (2) EVs, 12kW solar on the roof, all battery operated yard tools.(Except my 1969 Gravely 2 Wheel Tractor which I want to convert to battery power) I am more fiscally conservative versus being ultra-green. I think being very frugal results in being pro-EV.

Back to the topic. Making its own seats seems a bit odd considering all the other subassemblies Slate is going source from suppliers.

You have to look at the seating manufacturers. Tesla does their own seating because in the beginning the big 3 threatened the suppliers to not sell to Tesla. No reason to think that is not the reason now.
tesla says cost per unit is lower than the union based suppliers anyway so it worked out for them.

It would be AMAZING if Slate made these V2X (more specifically V2H / V2L) capable for something like Tesla's PowerShare or GM's PowerShift to be able to use the Slate Truck as a home backup battery or for camping, etc.

Even if they just allowed it with an adapter that had a couple 20A/110V plugs or one 30A/220V plug that plugs into the NACS port it would be HUGE.

yes, that would be AMAZING. Most like require something 3 party to interface depending on the house side. Personally, I’m hoping and researching how I might directly cost effectively tap into my excess PV and bypass my inverter/batteries. Who knows what the year will bring. I know I will only charge daytime sunlight hours.

If you say EVs are more convenient, require less service, have better performance, etc then Im on board.

The simpler drivetrain of EVs should make them cheaper, but they arent so Im waiting until we get 30K EV truck (that will fit in my garage < 229 inches)

If side-curtain airbags in seats are not mandatory, and I don't think they are, seat manufacturing in-house should be fairly straight forward. Frame, foam, cover, mount it to the truck. Funnily enough there's a manufacturing facility right by me that makes custom seats and upholstery for aircraft and it's a fairly small footprint for the volume they allegedly produce. Should be able to fit that right in with the rest of the factory if they outsource the frames.

It does appear that Slate uses seat side airbags for the driver and front passenger. So that will be part of the assembly process.

If you follow Sandy Munro, who has a few You Tube interviews on the Slate, he praised the comfort and ergonomic support of Tesla seats. In fact, Sandy uses a modified Tesla seat as his office chair!

If Slate is manufacturing own seats, I sincerely hope they explore building a small, middle, filler seat with fold down back that converts to a console.
