I was so excited about the model 2 rumors, then so disappointed. Slate has my heart now.

Interesting observation on the 2500 Walmart locations. I was thinking it would be one of these places that does tires, mufflers and brakes. The muffler demand is going to disappear and brake repair demand is going to decline a lot. If they could get trained by Slate University they may be able to reinvent themselves to be relevant in the EV era.

With respect to the delivery aspect. My vote is they ship by rail except for the trucks that are going within about a 200 mile radius. I may be biased as my employer owns and operates the rail line that goes by the Warsaw plant.

When I shipped my car from Atlanta to Hawaii it went by rail to CA, back in 2005.

One of the articles said the service centers would likely be one of the chains that starts with an "M" My understanding is the trucks are going to leave the factory as just the one base truck, I guess with the extended battery if you choose that. Everything else is going to be shipped in boxes for you to install yourself or have that chain install for you. Everything is supposed to be DIY with basic tools except the powertrain and battery for safety.
For actually getting the truck, they said they will have locations you can pick it up at, locations depending on where more people reserved, and if there isn't a close location to you, you would have to have it delivered for an additional charge. My assumption would be that most of the test drive opportunities would be at these same locations, aside from things like car shows and pop up events.

Yes, but at least a year away before we can really see one up close,
Thats a real bummer, seems to me they should put a few on a trailer and run around the whole country like lunatics showing it off.

This is FL, pickup country, customization is the name of the game, folk will sign up in droves if they can see it.
But if its only online then its labelled as "Musk-ovites", no one believes its real.

"Musk-ovites", never heard that one before.

Toyota Tacoma most popular vehicle in Hawaii last 2 decades. Likely accounts why I see so many of the old style small pickups. Here on the Big Island many of those have racks on the back.
I do hope Slate marketing is aware of this fact and a market ripe for the Slate.

Hawaii might be a special issue in getting them, since they would have to make special arrangements to get them there. The state government might actually want to encourage them because it would mean less dependence on shipped in gasoline.

Special, but not that difficult if you consider that every make and model are currently shipped in. i can order a Tesla online And includes delivery to Oahu.
I have already checked and getting my Slate delivered to Long Beach, then I can get shipped to Big Island for about $2300. Vehicles of all types shipped in and out daily. I wouldn’t expect any type of State assistance.

What is their electricity made?

Google says:
“Hawaii primarily relies on imported petroleum for its electricity generation, with over 70% of its power coming from this source. While renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal are being developed, they currently account for a smaller percentage of the total electricity produced.”

So, they might not give a rip whether the imported petroleum is going into Tacomas or making electrons for Slates?

Publicly they claim to be committed to 100% renewable energy, but then 7/1 was start date of new EV roaduse tax.
As for me, I live off grid, solar electric generation and my intent is never to have to buy charging.

Thats awesome. I’d like to be 100% off grid…solar, geothermal, etc. A Slate would make sense in that ecosystem if you get enough electrons moving around!
